Great for downstairs enclosures
I used the Fasteners to install easy up & down hurricane shutters for my downstairs enclosure windows. They probably do not meet Miami-Dade Code, but will protect my enclosure windows in most cases. The package does not come with instructions, so here are mine - use common sense - I assume no liability for your use of these instructions.Cut plywood to fit the exterior edges of the casing and then measure and mark holes for Fasteners (I used three on each side of my 45" x 43" piece of plywood). Screw plywood into the casing with a top center screw and another to keep it level. Using a 3/16" bit, drill holes for the remainder of the Fasteners through the plywood and into the casing. After removing the plywood, screw a wing nut on a Fastener and, using a wing nut bit, drive the Fastener into the casing pre-drilled holes until the nut is flush with the casing. Drill out the plywood holes with a 1/4" spade bit so that it will slide on easily. Test the fit, label the top of the plywood for the window, and place the rubber caps on the exposed Fastener ends.Notes: I added additional exterior casing and, using a 3/8" spade bit, countersunk the casing Fastener holes to a depth of about 1/8" so that the plywood would lay flush with the casing to prevent wind from getting behind the shutter. The Fasteners have 6/8" exterior mounting threads, so they can likely be used to mount up to 1/2" plywood (I used 3/8" plywood).I ordered the 5 sets of Fasteners in two batches, and the company sent me an extra set as a bonus. The orders with both delivered as promised. I painted the shutters white and the windows look great with the shutters up or down.

I used these for hurricane shutters and plywood for some of my windows. They're ok for the shutters but too short for plywood. The ones I usually buy have a longer threaded end and they fit flush to the wall without the nut that is on the Safeguard types. I would not buy these again.

Just as described. Easy to instal and well made - just wish they came in stainless steel as well as galvanized.

Not tapcon threads.
These do not have tapcon threads. My husband says they're basically wood screws, and unfortunately our home is stucco so we are going to have to find the correct ones elsewhere. Wish I hadn't thrown away the packages or I'd return them. This should be advertised, as it could be dangerous for anyone who can't tell the difference like me, thankfully my husband noticed before we needed them.

Size does matter
I just received the four packs of these anchors I ordered. No idea what the other folks here are putting up with these anchors but the head where the panel is mounted is only a half inch. To have any room to put on wing nuts, a 3/8" thick panel is the maximum you can use them for. The anchors I already had will comfortably mount 3/4 inch panels. Where I live, a 3/8 inch thick hurricane panel is about as useless as tits on a boar hog.

You are good to go
Drill a pilot hole, use a deep socket and an electric impact drill. You are good to go.

Easy to install
These worked perfectly for me and were easy to install. So far they have lasted through Hurricane Matthew.
