NOT COMPATIBLE WITH LG5231JA2006A OR KENMORE 9990 - WAY TOO SMALL
These are NOT replacements for Kenmore 9990 water filters. They are smaller diameter and shorter than the 9990 filters that fit my Kenmore Elite French Door refrigerator. They DO say they are compatible with Kenmore 46-9990, and ARE also listed as compatible with LG5231JA2006A. I am NOT sure what the difference between Kenmore 46-9990 and 9990 filters are. However, the filters I have been using are the LG5231JA2006A's and these are NOT the same as those, despite being listed as compatible. The filter for my refrigerator goes into a round slot and only the twist handle at the end of the filter sticks out of this slot so you can lock the filter in place. The LG5231JA2006A is 12.25 inches long from nozzle tip to handle edge.and 2.25 inches in diameter. These filters are about 3 inches too short and about half an inch smaller in diameter. If I tried to insert this into the filter slot, the handle would be 3 inches deep into the slot and my fingers would NOT be able to twist the filter into place. The smaller diameter would also mean the filter would have too much play while sliding in and the nozzle would probably NOT line up very well with the filter inlet. I HAVE been using the LG5231JA2006A's and they ARE an exact replacement for the original Kenmore 9990 that came with the refrigerator, these ARE NOT.

Friend is happy with purchase
My friend has a Kenmore Elite French door fridge (I forget the model number). He has had one of these filters installed for couple weeks and says so far, there has been no leaking. If that changes, I will update the review.

Changing my filters more often per year
These filters work perfect in my Sears fridge. I have been purchasing these for several years now. Because of the price I change my filters 3 x a year instead of trying to get as much time out from the original $50+ filters.

Packaging provides compatible fridges for water filter; very helpful
I was so happy to find the water filter for my fridge. Fortunately, the packaging on the product provided the fridges that were compatible with this model of water filter, so it was easy to determine that this would work in my fridge. Very happy with the product.

Buyer Beware... These filters are not the same as they used to be.
I ordered this same product little over a year ago and they worked perfectly and my wife and I were very satisfied. Last week we needed to re up so we did just that although there was a price increase on these specific filters. The product appears the same as the old model which we ran through 3 filters with no issues. Filter replaced yesterday and this morning we wake to water dripping out of the fridge. Apparently these are not the same as they were. Buyer beware this caused for a lengthy clean up and late work day. Happy Friday.

Avoid at all costs!!
Just because they fit it does not make them a worthy substitute. I purchased these, installed one and first of all it began to leak water out of the overflow hole on bottom of filter housing. Next my fridge started making a loud sucking sound from the water valve in the back every time I used the water. And, most importantly the water did not taste right. before tasting I let about 5 gallons of water run though the filter to get rid of any sediment or other foreign material. I finally went and bought the appropriate Sears filter and before installing I filled a glass of water using this filter. I then installed the Sears filter and ran a glass of water from it. I did a side-by-side taste test and their was a HUUUGE difference in how much better the Sears filters' water tasted. On the good side though, Amazon did give me a full refund.

One unit not working
One of the units was defective... Was leaking in my fridge...Had to use another one which is working well so far....The serial number is 0542171510No way to contact seller other than thru reviews... Sorry
