Q: what is the best size container for this size wick?

I would not use anything larger than 4 oz jar. The wicks are really only for smaller candles.

Q: What kind of wood is used?

We used the original material, cherry wood, but we updated the process so that the wick can burn more consistently and steady. Please read our instructions for use. use double wicks if you want bigger flame.

Q: How many pieces do you get? It says upgraded to 150 but everything else says 100

Mine was only 100 with 50 holders. They are thin and you have to soak them in wax to get them to burn correctly.
