Expensive but nice
I needed a 2.5gb managed POE switch at least a couple of 10gb sfp+ ports, this was the best of a limited selection. This properly powered by 2.5gb access points with no issue. Testing the bandwidth yielded exactly as expected, I was able to fully saturate 6 of the 2.5gb ports at 2.5gb, 2 of the 2.5gb ports at 1gb, and the two 10gb sfp+ ports at almost full speed with no issue at all. I would have filled all 8 ports with 2.5gb devices and tested, but I do not have that many 2.5gb devices.Utterly silent, this switch allows for management either via ssh or via the Unifi Network system (application/VM are free, Unifi Cloud Key as bought option). VLAN tagging was not simple to make cooperate with an older Cisco switch using dot1q , but was able to manage with some significant effort. This switch offers a lot of integration in a fully Unifi environment, but does not natively communicate well with non-Unifi switches/routers/firewalls in the sense that things like VLAN tagging are native inside the Unifi environment, but require manual CLI configuration for non-Unifi devices. It will definitely do these things well, once configured. This switch runs warm when at capacity, but not uncomfortably so. The metal body works as a natural heatsink just fine, and the silence is appreciated in comparison to the larger switches I work with in some locations.Expensive for ten ports, but blazing fast.

Sleek, compact and fast
Probably among the best looking switches out there. It does get warm so make sure it's not enclosed or at least have proper ventilation if enclosed. Only wished it had 10GB RJ45. Does provide poe+ for all your power user needs and integrates easily into the Unify ecosystem.

Fantastic and very fast - NOT overheating at all
No problem with overheating. Yes, it is warm but that's it. I run Ethernet over Fiber directly into this unit from our Playstation and computer gaming with blisteringly fast speeds, sustained at over 2Gbps.Wonderful build quality and plug-and-play simplicity in our Ubiquiti router. (SDM SE)One strong recommendation, stay within the same manufacturer for communication data between router, access point, and switch - and everything will be MUCH smoother. In this case, it is plug-and-play!I am very happy with this unit, it has not crashed at all, super stable - 24hr up time - and as I said it is blisteringly fast

Top notch product, overkill for home networks, and a 10Gb version of this should be out before long
This is great. I love it. That said, you probably don't want this for your home network unless it's the PoE you're after, just a normal "layer 2" switch at half the cost. Layer 3 is TCP/IP in this case, not just ethernet (VLANs). You most likely do not need a layer 3 switch at home - it also does some of the things a router can do. This is for Enterprise use as the name suggests, for example when it needs to be placed far away from the gateway/router and still do some of its jobs. Also, there should be a 10Gb version of this out soon. Also note this is only PoE+ not PoE++. A normal Unifi layer 2 switch is a managed switch, and well priced. Still, this is a great product.

Overheating frequently
I am a huge fan of Ubiquity equipment. Unfortunately, this particular unit overheats frequently and requires a restart for it to start functioning again. I've put a small fan next to it and that seems to help the issue - but I really feel that shouldn't be necessary. I keep my office at 72 F or lower and it isn't sitting in the sun or exposed to any heat sources.

Lack fo support
This is advertised as a Enterprise switch. Ubiquiti's support is NOT Enterprise. Support is difficult to reach and then it is chat only - they don't even have remote desktop ro screen share to help you with the issue. I chatted with Support 3 different times to help me setup this switch due to VLAN issues we were having and the support techs were unable to help. They obviously read from a script as the tech said things to me that did not answer my question at all. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told that they do not have supervisor on call for support. I am nto sure what the issue is with this switch and configuring to use with OTHER wifi antennas. It kept stripping the VLAN and then no one could access the internet. Also, one port on the swicth was not working at all, never could get it to recognize any of the cables we plugged in. Support kept saying to try different cables. Do not invest in Ubiquiti's devices for your enterprise network.

It's good, but heat is an issue...
It features 8 ports of 2.5G BaseT, 120W of 802.11at POE, and 2 10Gb/s SFP+ ports. It's a dream box for a high performance SOHO network that needs a silent POE switch with higher than gigabit speeds. Honestly it could suffice as a small network core switch and in fact did for a time in my network. So really what's not to like??? Well...HEAT!!! This thing get HOT!!! Uncomfortably hot. Hot enough some users are reporting freezing, crashes, and resets. And hot enough I was concerned about potential fire. I'm not some panicy idiot, but this thing could burn you... And i was running only about 25W of POE in a 70-75 degree room. So I threw a Hail Mary and tried active cooling. Adding a centrifugal fan over the top vent has the problem solved. Temps (registered by the switches own internal monitor) dropped 40 dregrees from 160F to 120F. It now runs cool and I've never had a function or performance issue. So my thoughts are, it's a great "unfinished" product. It needs proper active cooling. Although my install now works properly and seemly safe, I can't recommend this and won't be purchasing this model again. It's been moved to the lower level of the house and still feeds POE to 2 access points and 2 cameras. But my office switch has been upgraded to a model with active cooling.
