This has been a handy reference for me to have around as a new motorcycle rider/tinkerer. It is intentionally general in the information since it isn't written for a single or specific bike. That's part of the appeal to me since I have a few different models/types. It isn't a replacement for a service manual but is a good reference to explain the work you are about to undertake and then use your bike specific service manual for the details.

This book is great for a general overview of the maintenance you should be comfortable doing. Great read for beginner mechanics.

Not Bad
Guide is Ok, but author often states "leave this to a more experienced mechanic" or "take this into a repair shop where they'll have the right tools" I would recommend most likely just getting your bikes manual over this, it will contain much of the same information and more targeted directly towards your bike, this is Ok for general extreme beginners knowledge of repairing cycles, lots of good imagines, and basic breakdowns of things like oil and electrical systems.

Bought for my husband, he loves it and reads it all the time! I can't really comment on the content as my husband is the one who reads it.

A quick overview - fairly basic.
It is not that this book is really bad in anyway, but it is very basic and only skims the surface. A nice little introduction, but if someone is really going to do maintenance on their cycle, they need a book specific to that bike.

Not for the beginners
I have read this book. Contains very bright beautiful pictures, but nothing more than that for ordinary people like me. I am sure you will love this book if you are accustomed to mechanics or an engineer. If not, don buy it!!

dated but still somewhat usefull. kinda. not really.
Although there's a few tips on older bikes like adjusting the points for timing and carb tune, this bike is mainly for late 90's crotch rockets and was written a long time ago. I think the author would be better off with several renditions of this book for specific types of bikes. It's hard to have him telling me how to adjust a swing arm on a 90's sports bike when I have a 50's triumph. didn't work for me but I can see it working for others. Procedures are very lacking in information and steps missing. Didn't find it useful.

basic
Reminds me of the books I used to buy when the kids were small. Nice books from DK, as a taster, but way to basic to be of much use. Wasn't happy about its small A5 size either. Just read the user manual of your bike and you will have tons more of useful information

Very basic, even for beginners.
As others have mentioned, this book is not useless, but you could probably skip it, very little to be learned that is not in more complex books.

good
Good basic stuff, which is just what I need to know first as a novice. I am sure it will be very useful as I get to know my first bike.
