UPDATE: Bleaching completed - excellent product!
UPDATE: The process has been completed. I must say, I’m very impressed. Before and after photos show it all after just one application. Great product!Updated with extra photos. The last two photos are a before (technically during the very beginning) and after. The two front legs are shown side by side for comparison of the color difference. That is the actual dark color of the wood of that one leg as seen in that very first full chair photo. I had forgotten to take a side by side pic while it was dry, and only remembered after I had just applied the bleach treatment. It looks like a dark varnish because it is wet, but that was actually the mismatched dark color of that one leg. The final pic was taken the following day after the bleach process ran overnight. Simple and very effective product. Would absolutely recommend! :DI found a set of 4 Adrian Pearsall Dining chairs at a yardsale a couple years ago for an absolutely dirt cheap $10. They had been painted over numerous times in their lifetime and apparently reseated and/or at least reupholstered, but looked serviceable enough to attempt a rescue. After stripping the thick tan paint and original dark finish off the first chair, I found a beautiful honey-blonde mahogany under all that goop. Things were looking really good for the final outcome of this chair and got me excited to work on the rest, until I got to the left-front leg. That leg was an oddball mismatch of a significantly darker color than the rest of the honey-blonde wood. I put an extra coat of stripper on the leg, but that made no difference;this was the color of the wood. There's no doubt that it came from the factory like this, and I guess they figured, "use it, it's gonna have a dark finish over it anyway, who's gonna know?"I did some research, and talked with ppl in forums, and decided to attempt to bleach this leg to a closer match to the rest of the wood rather that stain all that great honey-blonde mahogany darker to match.Last night I did just a quarter sized q-tip spot test on the inside just to see, and there was a noticeable difference even within a few hours, so I decided to get one face and the edges started this afternoon. So far, things are looking good. Applied by pouring on just a little puddle of bottle A and smearing it around with a paintbrush, let it sit for about 7 minutes, then did the same using bottle B. Now it just sits.Currently awaiting the results which might take a while, but I'll update with more pics and results.Original:I’ve only just spot tested this for the moment, but after just 2 hours, there’s a significant difference in the color of the wood I’m trying to lighten. I’ll update with before and after pics and description once I get the process going. So far though, very pleased with the test outcome.

Works Well
Worked well on a rifle hand guard (1918). Lightened it well enough to match the forestock. Only problem was the bottles were leaking slightly. Would recommend it.

Used this to refinish a second hand dining table
I wanted a blonde colored dining table but couldn’t find one at a price I could afford, so I found a beat up (solid wood) dining table for cheap and refinished it. This was very time consuming overall, but the bleach part was easy and worked wonderfully. I first used 2-3 jugs of Citristrip, leaving each coat overnight covered in plastic wrap. The previous stain and clear coat was very thick and required a lot of stripper to get off. Then I did a lot of sanding all by hand (weeks worth). The table still wasn’t as light as I would have liked and any kind of finish (even a clear coat) darkens the wood. So I decided to try wood bleach. I have never done anything like this before and I found it easy, just the sanding was incredibly tedious. Once I finished sanding (starting with coarse sand paper and gradually increasing the grit), I used this wood bleach as per the instructions, then did some more sanding, used a wood conditioner (a few coats), and finally applied 4-5 clear coats and voila. This table seats 6-8 comfortably and I only needed one box. Another reviewer said to buy 2, so I did and I regret it because these are not returnable on Amazon. So now I have an extra box and no desire to ever refinish another piece of furniture. But overall I LOVE my new dining table and it was worth the effort to get the table I wanted for less.

This product works on even the hardest to lighten woods, great for 1980s orange oak cabinets!
Trying to save money on my 1980s kitchen, remodel. Typical orangey oak cabinets ( red oak). Wanted to strip and leave natural with a clear sealer. After reading many refinishing forums I was not sure that I could achieve what I wanted... natural looking cabinets that looked like white oak. Bought this Zinsser wood bleach kit and WOW! It worked better than I ever thought possible! My raw red oak cabinet looks just like natural white oak, came out so light with only one application! I may try an additional application just see how far it will lighten. This has given me far more options for my cabinets that I thought were possible. Easy to work with, not very messy! Being able to achieve the look I want on my old cabinets, has literally saved me thousands of dollars! Just an outstanding product!

It works and Easy to use!
Ok so I started hating the color of my Island last year and decided to sand a section of it to see what was under the paint/stain. After some research I decided to order this wood bleach and try it out on a section. I was worried about the product arriving damaged as other reviews stated but mine came in perfect condition. So I used 2 sponges and labeled each one “A” and “B” and poured the product in 2 separate containers. There was no odor so I was very skeptical of this even working. When I applied the “A” product it was super easy I dipped the sponge and applied it like I was cleaning. I waited 5 mins and then applied the “B” product to the same area. Again no odor at all! I came back an hour later and this is was happened! I was completely shocked that this worked and how easy it was. The permanent marker my kids scribbled did not come off it just lightened it. But overall I’m excited to rub this stuff all over the rest of it. The only thing is the bottles are small so I would need to order more.
