Brilliant Maps: An Atlas for Curious Minds

Love this wonderful eclectic book - full of fun, surprising and educational information. Highly recommended for anyone with an enquiring mind.

It is interesting and colorful but the differences by color code are difficult to discern. The author should also add symbols to the colors so that interpretations are clear. Some of the facts are odd. Otherwise, good.

don't waste your money on this book. I bought it after reading a glowing review in the Wall Street Journal, because I am a lover of maps. This book is a collection of one-off factoids represented as maps of the world. (where do they drive on the wrong side of the road, where is it football vs soccer, etc.). There is little to no text except the keys to the different colors on the maps, and often the colors are so close to each other that it is virtually impossible to see which is which unless they happen to be side by side. For an informational graphic, this is a big flaw. Even worse is the layout, which is portrait orientation for the book but landscape for the maps. Result - all the maps are laid out across facing pages and the same area - Europe and points directly north/south of it - is lost in the binding blind area. It is a very stiff hardback and even if you broke the spine it would not be possible to see the entire map. Overall, a disappointment.

So many fascinating maps. Among my favourites - the different names for the Christmas gift-bringer in Europe; the concentration of heavy metal bands per capita.

All my teenage students love this, so do the people of all ages in my family. It is a fantastic book and it makes geography come to life.

Le regalé este libro a mi novia por su cumpleaños y le ha encantado.Tiene muchos datos curiosos e interesantes sobre todos los países del mundo.El único problema es que a veces, debido a la encuadernación, los mapas se veían algo mal justo en la zona central del libro, pero no es un problema muy grave.Es apto para todas las edades, y entretiene tanto a mayores como pequeños.Lo recomiendo mucho!

Es ist ein sehr gutes Buch. Es gibt viele spannende Informationen, es ist aber mit Sicherheit nichts wissenschaftliches, was ich aber auch nicht erwartet habe. Wer einen geographischen Atlas sucht ist hier falsch.Für mich war das Buch trotzdem sehr lehrreich und hat mir auch verblüffende Informationen geliefert.Kleines Manko, das Buch kam einfach in einem Kartonumschlag ohne sonstigen Schutz des Buches, somit war der Einband leider schon leicht beschädigt, sah einfach schon ein bisschen benutzt aus.Da erwarte ich mehr wenn ich ein "Neues" Buch kaufe.
