I've read so many mixed things about eGPUs, I was expecting to have problems. But after about 2 weeks now with this 3080 gaming box, I have nothing but good things to say. I have it paired with a GPD Win Max 2, which is pretty decent little gaming laptop already, but this gaming box puts it over the top. I love that it acts as a full USB hub so I only have to plug in a single cable to dock it. It's also much smaller than most eGPUs, and with water cooling it stays super quiet (my laptop fan is louder) and the temp usually hovers around 60C when gaming. The game I play the most currently is Overwatch 2. I'm running it at 4K with HDR and max settings ("Epic") through this gaming box, and it gets around 100 FPS with resolution scaling disabled. But I have a 144hz monitor so I let it scale dynamically so it stays at 144 fps while still looking absolutely beautiful. I was expecting there to be a small amount of input lag, since it's going over a cable. Sure, TB3 is 40gbps, but it's a *cable*, there has to be lag, right?? But there's none. It seems impossible and it's simply amazing. My laptop is running Windows 11 and I didn't have to do anything to set this thing up. When I plugged it in, Windows recognized it immediately and installed the drivers automatically. I literally did nothing. Things have come a long way! Highly recommend if you can afford it! Retail price is spendy but I got an open box one on Amazon for just ~1000. Make sure to check the "other seller" prices to see if you can get one at a lower price.

I love the Aorus Gaming Box RTX 3080. Nice external solution. Water cooled, pretty quiet during 4K gaming, fans at about 50% (CPU at 60°C). After removing the side removable filters and the top plate the temperature has further dropped to 55°C and the fans are at about 34%. The GPU is the LHR version, getting only about 67MH/s at 236W, but that is to be expected. Overall excellent.

Had it about 2 weeks, working great so far. Plays all my games at 100+FPS on 1440p high/ultra settings with the exception of cyberpunk. Not quite sure why but it’s possibly a bottleneck from the thunderbolt 3 port. AIO works great and keeps the card running chilly while under heavy load, although it does get quite loud at times. The noise is more tolerable than my laptop GPU fan however, the gaming box fans reminds me of a constant humming. Got this used for < 900 and for that price I think it’s worth but not 1300+. Try to get it on sale.
