Plain speaking of the obvious.
Tom simply says it as it is. We all know that we need to up our game and be more aware of what and when we eat. You can identify with many of the traps and how to avoid them. A useful tool to help you along the way.

This book could save your life!
I was inspired by Tom Watson's first book and I've almost finished this one. It is beautifully produced and extremely well-written with many references to the people and books that have helped him along his way. Following his lead in the first book, I took a deep dive into the literature and the new science emerging on diet, weight-gain and the role played by crap-food filling our supermarket aisles and worse. The current advice of a 'balanced diet' and exercise doesn't work for people trying to lose weight. I've been doing both for the best part of 50 years and got steadily fat. The official Eatwell advice is simply not helping either. Like Tom, we need to cut the carbs and slim down. Thanks to the first book I'm now a totally reformed shopper, eater and over three stone lighter. Vivo Watson, Chatterjee, Malhorta, Spector, Noakes, Taubes, Eenfeldt, Mosley et al. They're all saying much the same and pointing the finger at industrially produced factory made food. This subject needs to become seriously political because our health and well-being depends on it. Not only that, the health and well-being of the next generation depends challenging the current orthodoxy. A great book full of practical advice and humility. His honesty and cadour is totally engaging. Like the first book, I wholly recommend this one to anyone who has struggled to lose weight and failed.

follow on from Downsizing
Found previous book Downsizing helpful, as a failed low-carb dieter with a reluctance to exercise. I think this complements Tom’s first book with practical advice and tips - especially maintenance which I think is the trickiest part.Well written and researched by someone who’s been there, lived it, not just read about the subject or studied nutrition without knowing how it feels physically and emotionally to be overweight.I think reading Downsizing to get the full story would be helpful but not essential as main points of Toms ‘journey’ are included in this book.

Inspirational AND practical
I loved Tom's previous book, Downsizing, so was really looking forward to reading this one. It doesn't disappoint!Lose Weight 4 Life is a really practical book, inspired by Tom's own incredible weight loss journey. I love the way it addresses all the different areas of our lives that impact how likely we are to embrace (and stick to!) a healthier lifestyle. The section on motivation was a real eye-opener for me, and made me realise why so many of my weight loss efforts have failed in the past. As someone who works from home all day, I was also shocked to learn just how bad a sedentary lifestyle is for our health. Tom has some great tips on how to combine work with movement, which I've already started to adopt. The recipes are lovely and don't require a list of ingredients as long as your arm, which is also a massive plus. Would recommend to anyone who's even mildly curious about what it takes to get into shape in middle age!

Good practical advice
Tom’s honest about how hard it is to maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle and his own set backs and how he over came them. Some really good practical advice told in a honest and useful way. Recommend!
