National Geographic Traveler: Colombia, 2nd Edition

Biggest difference to the 1st edition is the front cover photo...
I checked out the first edition (2011) from my local public library and thought it was OK. The second edition, being 6 years later, ought to have a bit new material or at least updates... Not so. Actually if you look at the table of contents of both books, they're not only 100% the same, but every subject coincides with the same exact page number in the two editions. There are a few updates, as in total population of the country and the CV of the author but almost nothing regarding new destinations, new restaurants or hotels. Not even the fact that there was a peace treaty with the guerrillas is mentioned and the same cautionary tale about not venturing off the beaten path due to the guerrillas kidnapping risk shows up unchanged. So if you can get the 1st edition used, you can save some money.

Beautiful but lacking substance
This book is a just as pretty on the inside as it is on the cover, with thick glossy paper, colorful photos and an interesting layout. Unfortunately it's a little glossy in it's content too. If you want an overview of the main points of interest in Panama, or are looking for a book to convince that special someone that Panama's worth a trip, this is the perfect book for you. If you're looking for nitty-gritty, detailed insight on almost anything you might want to know to actually travel around this country, take a look at Moon Panama.Warning: The font is very small and hard to read; if I didn't have young eyes I'm not sure I could have managed it.

Not a great travel guide
Not very easy to use and hard to follow. Basically not well-organized for a travel book.

Pre owned
The guide book I received was used and damaged, but the content was interesting and helpful.

Beautiful pictures of an exotic country
Panama is a beautiful country. On the other hand, most countries are beautifulThis book captures the beauty of Panama with exquisite photographs. The colors are ever so vivid. One wonders how many thousand pictures were taken for this collection and how these were ultimately selected. Nevertheless, they are excellent choices. The text is not overly sophisticated but National Geographic picture books are just that -- visual, pictorial representations. It is not a travel log or a guidebook, it is a beautiful visual introduction to an interesting country.Maybe you will be enticed to visit.

Not worth it
This is by far the worst travel book I have ever bought. I chose it over another guide because of the National Geographic name but what a mistake. It is so poorly written and so boring, I couldn't even read it. It went straight to the trash, not even worth donating to the thrift store. I don't want anyone else making the mistake of trying to read this incoherent babbling.

Deceiving
I'm used to travel with Lonely Planets or "Guide du Routard". Nice photos and a couple of good adresses but really not practical to use on a trip (no maps, not enough restaurant adresses or practical informations. Would not buy again .

I want to live in Panama
Great book, beautiful pictures. All in all a good thing to have if you are going to Panama or are just interested.
