Q: When repacking a bearing do you have to clean the old grease first? Description says it forces out old grease.

its just like repacking an old bearing by hand. Hook it up and start packing it with new grease then stop when you see new grease coming out of the bearing instead of the black old grease. then wipe off the grease outside the bearing and it should be good to go.

Q: Would this Bearing Packer be recommended for boat trailer bearings? Have bearing buddies on both boat trailers so would probably be used infrequently.

The bearing packer is good for all bearings auto, trailers, I even packed my steering bearings on my Harley Davidson. It will work, as long as the bearings aren't sealed.

Q: What is the snallest inner bearing diameter this will accept?

The threaded part which holds the packer together is .430 inches in diameter. Any bearing with an inner diameter larger than this measurement should work.

Q: Does this work only with tapered (Timken style) bearings?

If this is what you mean by timken style (http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v6/587498025/The_Best_TIMKEN_Bearing_For_Kinds_Of.jpg) then the answer is Yes. These look very similar to the bearings I had to use this tool for, which were bearings on a Dexter axle. Worked great for me and does a good job packing the bearings.
