Switched from Multi-Blade Razors
If you just want to see details about the products in the box check for the "--" below. To preface, I have been using multi-blade razors exclusively with very occasional electronic razor use. This was coupled with generally a sensitive skin foaming shaving cream. While absolutely providing a plenty good shave to remain presentable and professional the process just did not feel worth it. With the high cost of blades, the weird maintenance involved with electric razors (plus good ones cost a lot), and the lackluster shaving cream that was hit or miss for not prepping the skin well enough causing razor burn all together the whole experience just felt like a big waste of money. I mean, why not just get a cheap pair of clippers and just live on the border of presentable and hobo?NO!I spent some time whenever I was bored looking up recommended ways to keep up on the grooming while avoiding sinking money into expensive electric options that still left a crappy and rough shave. Low and behold! Safety razors are making a resurgence, but it just had to be due to hipster trends, right? I'm not about paying a premium just for nostalgic crap that does just as bad of a job as the new stuff.Well, after a little more research it looked like a single safety blade, if not abused, would last as long as a single multi-blade head for a new style razor. So then came time to price compare, how much DOES it cost for safety blades. 100 blades for $10?! What madness has descended upon us, $10 for enough blades to shave for like 2 years?! Now it's got my attention, but where to start? Well, if you're reading this far then you've probably guessed. I wanted to try a butter-fly like opening so that it's easier to install and remove the blade and I wanted all the other necessities included so that I didn't have to shop around for good deals just to give this a try. So a quick Amazon search and I saw this kit right near the top. What luck! Mike searched for a butterfly safety razer kit and boom, Mike the Mason has one! You'd swear it was fate.I did want to hold off for a few weeks before writing a review because I wanted to thoroughly experience both safety razor shaving and this kit. When you first open the box it is exactly what you would expect from the picture, although I did have to fight with the soap to get the plastic wrap off of it, they sealed it rather well. Had to use a knife for that because my nails are wussy.--Now to get to the actual details of the products in the package. The Hawk razor itself has a nice weight to it that feels both good in hand and makes it easy to gauge guiding it along the curves on your face. The badger hair brush was actually a bit of a surprise but it holds water and the shaving soap in it rather well but I definitely recommend looking up a video or two on tips for building a good lather. My first lather was rather disappointing but after looking up a video it was clearly user error, but I also am prone to missing the obvious sometimes when it comes to things like this. Building a good lather with this brush has been a cinch ever since. From there the soap works well enough and will definitely last a while, a few weeks and I've only used up a small chunk from one corner. The stand is well, just a stand. It holds its balance well. The provided Astra blades definitely work wonderfully and I will probably be buying my replacements from Astra. I do definitely advise to follow the recommendations when people say to NOT press the blade while shaving, use the weight of the handle and let it glide along your skin.TL:DRKit is awesome and has everything you need to give safety razor shaving a try for a great price. After getting personal experience with it I would definitely say "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!"I also see people that leave lengthy reviews for products have disclaimers at the bottom of their reviews even if they didn't receive any kind of compensation for the review. I am not sure why but it looked fun to do. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY PRODUCT OR DISCOUNT/COMPENSATION FOR MY REVIEW! I bought this product after my own research and of my own volition in case that wasn't clear from the review. There, I did it, I'm mainstream!

For those who wish to enter the DE realm
First of all there is so much information out there it is hard to get through it all. Now for the review. The packaging was perfect and it looked exactly how it did in the picture, rare. This is my first DE razor and I wanted to get the biggest bang for the buck and I finally, after months, not kidding, of research and talking it through with others and my wife I decided to go with this kit. This kit is probably one of the best intros into the DE world. First of all I was really worried about cutting myself but with this razor you don't have to worry about that so much, it isn't extremely aggressive and it still cuts smooth with the blades that are supplied; and these are quality blades. Now the downside, I have been using this for about 2 months and I find myself already looking for another razor, nothing wrong with this one, just looking to go with something a little more aggressive, I have a tough beard. But I do think this would be excellent for someone with sensitive skin. The brush is great and honestly when I use it I feel like a manly man, or at least it helps me relate to the past a bit, now let's go throw some meat on a fire and cook. I do have to say that I'm not a huge fan of the soap and am looking for an alternative, either another soap or maybe a cream. I have used the razor in a quick shave using some shaving cream I have and it works just as well if not a little better. I did notice that a lot of people are using a pre-shave oil to help the blade glide better, maybe I'll give it a try.Bottom line:This is an excellent kit for the money and perfect intro into the DE shaving ie. wet shaving world. However you may find yourself after a little time looking for a different razor, but if that is the case try a different blade, I'm still working my way through a variety pack that I bought along with this kit to try different blades. Do however, when you start, make time and learn how to shave with this razor with no distraction and enjoy the process you'll find it to be relaxing and joyous. Good luck and happy shaving

Not bad for the price, there is room for improvement
I'm new to using double edge safety razors and I'm liking the experience so far. First, order preshave oil, now. The razor itself is sturdy and has some weight to it so you won't need to apply a lot of pressure. The Astra Blads on the other hand, feels really cheap, and I suggest trying a blade with better user experiences. I checked the reviews on the blades and most people aren't happy with new Astra Blades being sold on Amazon. The shave soap is nice but I don't have the experience to compare it to anything. I have found it easier to build a nicer lather on the face as opposed to a mug or dish, different soaps different strokes. Please watch YouTube videos on how to build a nice lather, it can be complicated but worth it. The shave brush is nice but I don't think it will last very long before it needs to be replaced. It can give the lather a slight brownish color ( not sure if that's normal.) hint* I travel a lot and I bought a denture cleaning case to hold my soap. It works really well. You will also want to buy a few more things for travel, a guard for the razor and bush travel case, and for at home you will want a stand for the brush.
