How to Live: Boxed Set of the Mindfulness Essentials Series

Love all the tomes. Accessible and helpful.
Direct, simple language and stories to convey mature, healthy ways of tackling life and different personalities. They make great gifts for anyone. For anyone you know who is crazy and angry, there is another book titled “How to Fight” not in this box set and suitable for those normally unreceptive to acknowledging their anger management problems. Interestingly, people who already practice mindfulness and kindness are the ones drawn to read these books (perhaps as reminders or affirmations of how to be), and it’s the challenge of getting the unhappy sociopaths in your family to read these meditations and lessons.

Perfect "daily dose of wisdom"
As a reader of Thich Nhat Hanh's other literature outside of the "How to" series, I was gifted "How to Love" a while back. It was absolutely wonderful, I went and bought this whole boxed set a couple years later! I think the best way to read these books is to read one page/entry per day and allow that to guide your thinking that day. I typically keep it on my bedside table and read my "daily dose" before my morning yoga/meditation routine, then again afterward to solidify it for the day. The books are a very small size so could also be kept in a pocket for reference throughout the day. Thich Nhat Hanh is very skilled at making Buddhist ideas accessible to the Western mindset. In particular, his "How to" series condenses these philosophies and presents them in short paragraphs accompanied by heartwarming illustrations. I could picture these books being very helpful for teaching children as well, perhaps by sitting with your child each morning and reading a passage together? Anyway, I highly recommend these books, especially when read in the one-page-a-day fashion.

Wonderful teachings and mini blurbs to help you throughout your days
My Partner and I have been reading one passage a day in the How to love book. It's great to talk about the certain topic and discuss how we feel about the passages, and teach us things along the way. I would recommend these! It's great to read one, talk about it, and/or think about it throughout the day. Don't pick these up and read the entire book in one sitting, it's great to focus on one part at a time and really digest it. Can't wait to read the rest and get the others outside of this set.

Beautiful Collection
These books are small, and because of that, they can easily slip in to a purse or a back pocket (if you have decent sized pockets). In his usual fashion, they are constructed with so much care and love. Easy enough for a young reader to understand the concepts of, and deep enough for even a long-time student of Buddhism and philosophy to understand and appreciate. This is a wonderful gift for the free spirit in your life, or, anyone who may need a little reminding of whats important.

Down to Earth and very practical!
Thay has touched me very deeply through his writings. I love his writing style; simple and profound. He speaks to all walks of life as he presents everyday activities. These books can help one appreciate their life even more.

Perfect set
Great messages and I love the illustrations. I love the box set. It’s perfect for the living room for myself or friends to flip through. I like to have decorative and functional items so this was perfect for me. I wish more people read these books. Easy read and something you will find yourself going to over and over again.

Distilled mindfulness
I've been reading Thich Nhat Hanh for twenty years and he has transformed my mental state. I highly recommend the Heart of Buddha's Teaching, which is the book I started with. I needed a little reminder to keep up my mindfulness. These books appear to be clips and quotes from other works, each page being an entire thought or recommendation. They are indeed helpful and easy to digest, but very repetitive. Just one book would be sufficient as they all say the same advice, just in a different setting. Variations on a theme, you might call them. I can't recommend the boxed set unless you want it for appearances. Just pick one of the books if you want it for the contents.

Great little books, but when I say little I mean it…
Was expecting them to be actual books so was a little disappointed when I received the almost post it note sized books, but now I realise that the pocket size is perfect for when you need little reminders to stay present throughout the day.Another note, the books were slightly damaged which seems to be a recurring theme at amazon…
