STRYPER LIVE DVD-GOOD OR BAD?
PICTURE:Good picture quality.About an 8 out of 10.Most concert on dvd fans should be satisfied with the picture quality. There is not any overactive editing. The camera work focuses on one area for a normal amount of time before moving on.The picture goes from color to B&W for dramatic purposes i suppose, but not to the point of distraction. But it does mildly suffer from switching to different clothes and instruments from each scene.I assume this is edited from two different shows.Cant they catch this stuff in editing? SOUND:The sound options are stereo and surround sound.Should sound great on a surround sound system, but on a standard set you will have to crank the volume considerably. But the sound is crisp and clear, although i suspect a lot was re-recorded in post-production since you never get the "live vibe".Sounds more like a polished cd. PERFORMANCE:The guys in Stryper put on a solid performance. They all seem really into it, especially Michael Sweet. Brother Robert proves he is one of the most underrated drummers ever. The stage is simple:instruments, amps(yellow and black draped ones)and lights. No pyro or effects or anything like that, just their music and their message, which is totally fine. The audience really seem to be into the show and seems to know most of the songs as they sing along to almost every one.Shots of the audience are minimal, unlike other dvds that go from band to audience throughout the show. BONUS FEATURES:There are three vintage performances,a drum ,bass and guitar solo from a 1989 concert from Tokyo Japan that are fabulous .The picture and sound quality are great. This makes the dvd even better.(Check out that drum set-up!) OVERALL: None of the negative things that i have pointed out will deter your viewing pleasure, but i think that with a little more time and care these things could have been rectified. The good definitely out weighs the bad.If your a fan of Stryper as i am,or just a concert on dvd fan as i also am,at this price you cant go wrong by adding it to your collection.

Disappointed
Stryper-Live in Puerto Rico-I have had this video for about four years and I have only popped it in my DVD player twice in that time. I played it once more so that I could get my facts straight to write this review. Let me start off with the good things. One of the best things is that they start off the video with the ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’ from the Soldiers Under Command disc while they show fans lined up to get into the show. They run the credits at the end to the ‘Battle Hymn of the Republic’ also. The crowd is a very enthusiastic crowd with most trying to get their mugs in the video. Robert Sweet’s display of his collection of head ware is noteworthy, and he seems to enjoy the camera time because he sure is smiling a lot. The Joy of the Lord is shining through. The video quality is very good, but there is more to concert video than just video quality. As a former sound man, the audio quality of this concert video is a serious disappointment to me. The vocals are half-way decent, but everything else across the board sounds muffled and flat. I’m guessing it’s the yellow and black draping that covers all the speaker stacks on the stage. The guitars and bass all sound muffled and low at times. It looks like someone tried to mic the amps through the yellow and black drapery. Sometimes the vocals overpower the instruments. Not only is the sound muffled, but the overall mix is not very good either.. The drums are not mic’ed properly. The bass and snare drums are flat and muffled. The cymbals and high-hat can barely be heard at all. The mix between vocals and instruments should be in better proportion. The vocals and instruments should have brighter quality and this video just does not deliver on that quality. It is an absolute chore for me to watch this video, so it may be another four years before I pull it out again. If you are a ‘die-hard’ Stryper fan and you want this video just for that reason I would recommend this video to ‘you’ alone. I would be hard-pressed to recommend this video to anyone else. The five bonus feature clips, taken from Stryper-Live in Japan, are good, but I don’t think they are worth the price of the concert video, which was my only reason for purchasing it in the first place. If you are a Stryper fan looking for a good quality video, let me steer you to Stryper-Live in Indonesia and/or Stryper-Live at the Whisky a Go-Go. You will not be disappointed here.

Very nice
Really wanted to give this DVD 5 stars. The Concert was great. Make sure you setup your audio for surround sound. My first time watching it defaulted to stereo for some reason. The stereo sound was not very good. After changing to surround sound it was fantastic. Perhaps those who complain about the sound did not setup the sound correctly. Extras are only a few clips from a concert in the late 80s. They were cool but IMO showed how much the band has matured. In other words they are much better now. Would have like to have a little more in the extras such as the Styper story or behind the scenes. Any Stryper fan buying this DVD will be very pleased, so stop ready and buy it already!

Great picture, horrible sound!
I just got this DVD yesterday and saw 95% percent of it, including some of the extra features. The picture is fantastic, but the sound is HORRIBLE! It has way too much low end and sounds way too muddy! However, if you have access to an equalizer, you may be able to fix up the sound a bit, or maybe it sounds better on a surround sound system, which I do not have set up at this time. I will update this review if I find a difference in a surround sound environment. The picture is excellent and the song selection is decent, except that they did not include one of my favorite songs, "You Know What To Do". Otherwise, the band looked pretty tight and looked like they were enjoying themselves. It's just too bad that Michael Sweet was not playing his black and yellow striped guitar that he plays on the "Live in Japan" video. All and all, I am glad that I bought this DVD, although I am very disappointed with the sound. Maybe if I can tweak that sound a bit, then I can ugrade its rating. If you are a Stryper fan, then buy this video for your collection.Does anyone know if Stryper ever plans to release "Live in Japan" on DVD?

"This DVD truly honors the Lord"
Christians who like rock and roll and don't believe that all rock music is inspired by the Devil have always been in a tough spot. There are those who argue vehemently that there is no such thing as "Christian rock" as the very style of the music is ungodly. For those who don't buy this, save your breath. Your opponents are not open to other opinions. There has been another dilemna for those who like Christian rock music. It's hard to find Christian music that measures up with secular Christian rock. Let's face it; bands like Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd produced some great music. Then along comes Stryper. Stryper's music is as good as any of their secular counerparts. They also put on a great live show. C'mon, how many bands do you know that threw Bibles out to their fans?"Stryper Greatest Hits Live in Puerto Rico" is the place where rock concert meets praise and worship service. There is no doubting the sincerity of Stryper when you watch this DVD. I could feel the prescense of the Lord while watching this concert. It is also rock and roll at its finest. Michael Sweet has a great voice and the lead guitar solos are unbelievable. My only disappointment was that not all members of the band wore the yellow and black. Those who are opposed to rock and roll in any form will not likely watch "Stryper Live in Puerto Rico". That's unfortunate. They're missing getting blessed by this DVD.God bless,Ken Stewart

L.A.メタル再燃
