Amazing kit, wish I would have bought this to begin with
I wish I would have bought this right from the beginning. I originally bought a Weller soldering iron from Lowes, but the tip was too big for what I was doing. This kit is amazing. The soldering iron heats up quick and the tips are perfect for working on small electronics. The two sets of tweezers makes working with surface mounted items soooo much easier, and re-soldering very small wires. I haven't had to use the solder sucker, but the wick works great.Soldering irons are all about the heat. Just like how a dull knife will cut you, a "cool" soldering iron will burn you. I burned myself on my Weller iron because it wasn't heating up fast enough for what I was working on. This one heats of so fast and so hot that it does the job the first time.My only wish is that the box was just a little bit bigger so I could fit my helping hands stand, but that's such a small thing and doesn't impact my review. For around 20 bucks, you can't beat this kit.... I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

Fantastic Kit!
I wanted to learn how to solder but I didn't want to spend too much money on a kit. This was the perfect choice to learn how to do things correctly. I practiced on a few old motherboards before I started on other more expensive things I needed to do and picked it up in no time. I have already made hundreds fixing broken game consoles and reselling them. Eventually you are going to realize that you need more tools that are not included in the kit but they aren't necessary, they just make the jobs easier. This kit has more than paid for itself and if you are looking to learn how to solder, just buy it. It's too inexpensive to pass up on learning a lifetime skill. This is probably the most useful item I have purchased off of Amazon and I've been buying things since 2009. This would also make an excellent gift for any friends or family that are interested in computers or repairing electronics.

Good value, nice iron and solder sucker.
This is a very nice iron, very hot-very fast, for most soldering needs, you should never need to turn it up past halfway (even on large grounding connections).Only the very tip of the soldering tips can be tinned (below that is chrome sealed), and the tips can burn out quickly if left on more than 50%, good thing there are lots of spares. The Solder sucker is excellent, and the braid is my favorite thin gauge. The soldering iron holder is very light weight, and it comes with a screw to screw it to a worksurface (or a board) to keep it stable... be sure that you do, because just bumping the cord could land the soldering iron in your lap.The toolbox is a smidge better than the ones at dollar tree.

This is a great at home kit!!
This is a great at home kit. I used to solder circuit boards and this is easier to use then what I had at work. I do not know how many times I wished I could have brought my soldering gun home from work to fix this or that. So this is perfect. Works great and I was surprised at the quality of the whole kit and I really was not sure if it would all be there. Everything you need to get started. I have already fixed a pair of reading glasses for my husband and a key fob. I am sure I will repair more along the way. Very pleased with this purchase.

One job kit that likely will be sticking around for a while
Absolutely surprising, as I only picked up this kit as a one time use as my far more expensive soldering gun let out the magic smoke after only a few years of light usage. This iron itself is actually pretty well built, not flimsy, heated up faster than the manual stated, and kept hot even in contact with copper wire. The stand is cheap, but totally functional, and the solder is actually a bit better grade than the stuff I have already with a very specific melting point, strength and bond to copper following cooling, and great ductility without break away. The included tip selection is great, the pliers sets are not bad, the box is dinky but decent quality.I have not used the solder sucker or solder wick, as I was not repairing an electronics board, but was building a stereo wiring harness for our new car.

Not a terrible value, but it has its problems and you would be better off to look at other kits.
I have a mixed reaction with this kit. I ordered it on an impulse, as I didnt really need a new soldering iron, I just thought it might be a handy travel kit.Pros1) the soldering iron isnt half bad for the price paid, its not at all comparable with a high end soldering iron or station, but it is also quite cheap and more than good enough for an occasional user or someone just getting into soldering.2)It has a wide assortment of tools3) I have never used solder outside of a spool. I quite liked the pen style holder that came with this kit. The included solder was a little thicker than I prefer to use on my projects, so I might try and coil up some from one of my bigger spools to put into the pen.Cons:1) This is my biggest complaint off all. The tool box it came with is simply too small. I didnt expect it to be big, but I did expect it to be big enough to hold everything that came with it. The soldering iron holder comes disassembled, and simply can not fit into the tool box assembled no matter how you place everything back in the box. No way, no how, it is bigger than the tool box assembled. For me this really ruined the kit as I only bought it because I thought it would make a nice portable kit.2) Most people who purchase this kit will probably be new to electronic repair, and it does come with a decent selection of tools, it is missing two of the most basic that everyone will need. There are no side cutters or wire strippers with this kit. I knew this before I bought it, and was not a problem as I had a few extras of both of these tools. If you are new, you probably wont have these tools.3) As I already said the soldering iron isnt half bad for the price, so I put that in the pro category. It is also not a great soldering iron, it is simply good enough to do smaller jobs once and a while. It is what you would expect for the price, and the price is quite low.In the end I would not recommend anyone purchase this kit. If you are new to soldering I would look around Amazon a bit more, this exact same soldering iron comes in quite a few kits. A lot of these other kits have side cutters and wire strippers. Most of these other kits are similarly price, with a few being even cheaper. I purchased it for the tool box more than anything, and as I pointed out the tool box is useless once you assemble the holder.

great little kit
Perfect little kit for soldering anything small. I really like the soldering wire dispenser. The different tips shape will surely come in handy although i only use the one that came on it. The only reason i dont give this item 5 star is that you have to take the iron holder apart when you put it back in the box.
