Grain Brain Natural Carob powder (18 oz) Untoasted,

I put this in my smoothie and it gives it a better taste. I avoid chocolate because it's a migraine trigger but I was really missing chocolate. Carob doesn't taste exactly like chocolate but it gives beverages a hint of chocolate flavor. It's good in coconut milk for a hot drink and I add coconut fat or butter for added richness with a little honey or stevia. I've used it for baking like I would use cocoa powder and it gives enough flavor that I don't have to feel deprived of chocolate. Carob is a "beneficial" for blood type O. I'm completely migraine free since I've strictly followed the Blood Type Diet by Dr Peter D'Adamo. His book, EAT RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE, has been an eye opener. Carob powder has many health benefits whether you use it for a chocolate substitute or not.

Issues with GERD have sadly made me eliminate chocolate from my diet, and I was really missing my frequent cup of hot cocoa. 1 Tbsp of this carob plus 1 Tbsp of Land O Lakes Arctic White Hot Cocoa Mix (for better "mouth feel" in my fat-free milk) and a little added sweetener microwaved in a cup of milk makes a very acceptable substitute for hot cocoa. The texture is slightly grainy, but no worse than my former homemade hot cocoa drink, and it mixes well enough with a mini-whisk. I was glad to find this on Amazon since my local grocery store no longer carries carob powder.

I have never liked the flavor of milk, but I have always enjoyed milk with chocolate flavoring. Since my teen years, I have used a popular brand of chocolate flavoring, which I still love. However, I have been trying to reduce my caffeine intake. I decided to give this product a chance. While it does not as readily dissolve in milk as the popular chocolate flavorings I have used in the past, it does dissolve if you give it a bit more time. I like to add a bit of malt flavoring to sweeten it up a bit. For me, the results are better than I expected. I will buy this carob powder again.

Smells like cocoa, can be made into "chocolate-like syrup" or a host of other things calling for chocolate with ZERO caffeine. Safe for anyone who loves chocolate, but can't have it for whatever reasons and is naturally sweet

I received my order the day I was leaving for vacation and when I opened the pacakage, the contents of the powder was spilt all over the inside package. I do not know if the seal got broken during shipment or if it was already opened before it shipped. But taking precaution, I discarded it in the trash for fear that someone could have tampered with like in those ice-cream licking challenges that was on the news.

Two strikes against this carob powder: The description says "Untoasted" but it is, in fact, "lightly roasted."Strike 2, to me it has a strange and somewhat sour unpleasant taste. Unreturnable, of course. I may not finish it.

I have to say that I like the taste of darker roasted carob better. However, this carob is very good tasting. It is light and fresh tasting without the harshness of roasted. The first carob I tried was the dark roasted. I just really liked the chocolatey flavor of roasted. This one is more on the malty side. However, I do like like it better for making certain things. I believe I will keep both around. This one does mix a lot better than the dark roast that I had. Its just not as rich. I've read that its actually healthier for you untoasted. I have to give it 4 stars. It is a good product.

I am quite pleased with this purchase. I usually pay a good bit more to get this locally, so I was excited to find it at this price online. The quality and taste are excellent. My one and only complaint is that the container is a bit of a pain to open and close. I can live with that, however :)**edited to add* they changed their packaging from this box with an annoying lid to a cylinder with a twist top. The new packaging is much better!! :)
