Showings of Julian of Norwich: A New Translation Paperback – October 1, 2013

This is my favorite translation of Julian's Revelations. The gentle, loving God Julian experienced is the same one I have encountered. When a close loved one passed away a few years ago, I felt God gave me a deep experience to help me through that dark time, an experience of Him as pure love and safety, pure rest and peace. From this deep experience of Him, I just felt that He was pressing into my heart that "everything is okay, and everything is going to be okay for us forever" - and it really was a life-changing thing. Since that time, another loved one passed away and through all the grieving and feeling so alone, it seemed I'd forgotten that deep message of peace from God. So when I read this wonderful translation of Julian's revelations of God's love, I was deeply touched and comforted, because it was at its heart the same message from God - that all shall be well! This book brought tears to my eyes at how much He loves us, at how tender and sweet He is, how vulnerable and joyful and good! He is all that is good, Julian says, and He never assigns any blame to us, ever and only seeing us for what we are - innocent children. If you need comfort and deep peaceful reassurance that God really IS 100% safe and good and will never harm you or anyone else, I believe this book will help you find that, for that's what it did for me!

Am on the second read. Most inspiring. Should be more widely read.

This lovely translation encourages those who have heard the voice within and those who have not yet entered the conversation. No, you are not nuts, this is not superego speaking and it’s okay to share with others. The author(s) validate the importance of Orthodox Church teaching, and at the same time demonstrate God is not through teaching us yet.Faith is alive. I felt myself join in prayer with this religious woman in the moment although we are superficially separated by centuries in ordinary time.Ms. Starr helps us and our great-grandchildren see and hear as Julian hoped.

Lovely version but unfaithful to the text of the original long version.Mirabai Starr is presented as the author in the end pages. She rarely writes sin or salvation but rather miss the mark and liberation. This is an adaptation or a version of Julian's writing.There are more faithful versions available through Amazon: the series on Western Spirituality, the Paraclete (Holy Spirit) series, a version in Middle English, a scholarly version which allows comparison of the short text and the long text, plus easy access to notes, printed on the left pages.Literary beauty, textual and conceptual faithfulness, a foray into slightly modernized Middle English, erudition: your choice. BUT GET AT LEAST ONE VERSION.

I love Maribai stars translation it’s very readable it’s a good book

I have a copy of the older translation and I found it hard to read. This one is wonderful. And Julian's message is so important in this time. GOD LOVES US.

I highly recommend "The Showings of Julian of Norwich: A New Translation" because this book enlightens readers to consider that God is All-loving and astoundingly compassionate. Readers learn about what it means "to miss the mark" and how to get back on track with new wisdom that will inform the rest of their actions throughout life. In the showings, God reveals to Julian the passion of Christ, the Trinity, and the Mother. Readers learn how to conduct themselves with proper respect and appreciation for God. Moreover, God remains generous and understanding of humans whom he knows will have their lifelong challenges. This astounding book is for people of all faiths. It is truly amazing that a woman could write of showings in the 1300s to create such an English and spiritual masterrpiece!

I feel that this book will be my companion for years to come. Julian comes through as utterly humble and real. Her dedication to knowing God inspires me over and over again. The writings are warm and encouraging, and Mirabai Starr's translations speak to me.

Great book, terrific translation from old English, fully of great love, perception and quiet humour!
