A few unusual absentees (no Bowie, Iggy Pop, or New York Dolls?), but folks such as Brian Eno, Roxy Music, Lou Reed, and T-Rex are represented. Several covers from the glam era are performed without much deviation by two supergroups: the Venus in Furs, featuring members of England's elite--Bernard Butler, and Thom Yorke of Radiohead; and Wylde Ratz, featuring Mark Arm of Mudhoney, Ron Asheton of the original Stooges, and Thurston Moore and Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth. Strongest are the originals submitted to the film: Shudder to Think tame their own experimental excesses to put forth two glam-worthy originals with "Hot One" and "Ballad of Maxwell Demon." Beautiful vinyl!
The media could not be loaded. If you've looked for the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack on a vinyl previously, you're probably aware of how difficult it can be to find. Mine arrived on a fabulous blue and orange colored vinyl. Buy this! You will love it! This made for a beautiful gift.Everything arrived in a very secure packaging, and was just great. The artwork is exactly from the movie and it's almost a shame to place the vinyl in the protective cover because it's beautiful too.Anyone who's watched the film knows the value of listening to this music on a vinyl. The sound is so great; I like it much better than from the cd or flat sounding download.Nothing like subtle little pops and static crackles to transport you to an era of glam and discovery. I can close my eyes and feel as if I'm in the movie, listening to Maxwell Demon's record while looking through gauzy white curtains.As stated on the back of the vinyl cover, this is TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME. No death of glitter in this house!

Single CD of Music From The Movie
Loved the movie and love what is here, especially the Steve Harley/Cockney Rebel and Roxy Music covers by Venus in Furs. Just wish they'd had room to put in *all* the tracks heard during the movie on this disc. I wanted to hear that ViF(?) cover of "Sebastian" that gets a few bars in the movie.Found myself smiling as I listened and remembered the music and era. As Mott the Hoople said "Did you see the suits and the platform boots (oh dear oh gawd oh my oh my)".Speaking of which, where are the MtH parodies and/or covers in the movie? They were more glitter than Roxy, especially when it comes to the cover from Country Life, by which time the Velvet Goldmine was just about closed down, abandoned and flooded. And for a movie pretty much vamping on Ziggy, there ain't much Bowie pastiche either. Oh well.The original songs on here are seriously good too. Definitely worth the cost to anyone like me who clomped through the era on three-inch platforms while wearing 40 inch Birmingham Bags and sporting a haircut that would shame Robert Palmer. Hey, they invented Monty Python during this time too, you know.It's a single CD, 19 tracks in all, with a forgettable CD booklet. It will beg for a better treatment, digipack and all, if it can survive long enough to reach "remaster" status.Love it anyway.

Physical media reigns supreme
This movie is a trip and the soundtrack is truly what makes it shine. I was sad when the album was pulled from apple music, but I’d been meaning to buy a CD anyway. Case had a mild crack when I received it but the disc itself was pristine and that’s all I care about.

I bought the CD after watching the film (I kept replaying the film just to hear the music. It's a good buy, but a couple of the songs seemed corrupted on my disc...

I confess....I love it!
What can I say? I love it! This much maligned foray into the mythos of glam-rock is colorful and tuneful with a touch of magic. Front and center are fab performances by Jonathan Rhys Myers, Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale and Toni Collette. Better stay home if you are put off by cheeky camp but if you don't take it all too seriously, you're in for a fun ride.
