I travel internationally a lot and it was time to upgrade my luggage. I decided to jump on the spinner train. There are several highly rated 3 piece sets on Amazon at around $200. This set was about 50% more expensive (for the navy blue color). So why did I spend the extra cash (besides having to have the navy version (lol)?The main reason is that this set has a textured all polycarbonate surface that appeared to be more likely to resist scratches than the models with smooth glossy finishes. I also didn't like that the Amazon Basics set was very coy about the material making up the shell. Another reason is that even if a set got just one review saying that it was not recommended for "road warriors," I stayed away: I wanted a set that could withstand lots of punishment and came to the conclusion that you get what you pay for. (And I ignored all the reviews that say that it just arrived and "looks great." ??) Finally, if I were to lose a wheel, I'd be more likely to find a replacement worldwide than the other brands I looked at.Preliminary results from one trip with 4 baggage handlings are good: the luggage arrived no scratches, no dents, and no wheels missing (see pictures). Maybe I was lucky this time; only time will tell.I knocked off one star because there were no instructions for setting the built in TSA locks and no cords on the upper shell to secure belongings before closing the luggage (besides the zippered netting). I also found the larger pieces difficult to load onto a cart or lift off the bed, because there is no handle on the bottom--admittedly an odd place to put one. It's also too early to give this set 5 stars.The luggage is very elegant looking and appears very well made (100% polycarbonate, not cheaper ABS)--as you would expect from Samsonite. It comes with a 10 yr warranty though I don't know whether these warranties are meaningful since they cover defects in workmanship, not damage from rough baggage handlers. I recommend buying a luggage strap that should enable you to connect two bags to make it easier to move all three through the airport. Otherwise, you'll probably need a luggage cart. I hope this helps.Update: well, on the first leg of a second international trip the scratches began to show up. This maybe inevitable but clearly the Samsonite Surface isn't necessarily more Scratch resistent than other brands.

The costumer will be the one to pay for the shipping if you have to choose the return/refund status. I paid 70dollars to UPS just to return the item as the product description is inaccurate. Their large size luggage looks bulky unlike the large Delsey luggage. It should be my first time using Samsonite but will definitely go back to Delsey Paris.

The difference in some of these pieces compared to our older luggage is up to 7 lbs. With this luggage the light weight makes it easier to handle with the carry-on piece and with the larger pieces, that means more stuff my wife can pack and take. Since both sides lay flat when open and each side has a "cover" to hold packed items, I recommend buying the "packing bags" to put your clothes and other items in. They keep our packed items neater and easier to get to as they did in the old luggage..........

WE have always loved Samsonite luggage. It’s all we own. But the hard shell is a game changer. Everything inside is protected and when traveling we have never had something break like with soft shell luggage. Zippers are strong, And the wheels turn whatever way you need them. The warranty on the luggage is also why we only buy Samsonite.
