Edit: For some reason this review is posting for both the De Luxe edition (slip case) and the cheaper version with the white cover.This review was intended for the white cover version.I read all the reviews of the people who got this white cover edition shipped to them with dents, dings, printing errors, etc. My advice is for you to go to your local bookseller and buy this in person like I did. I have ordered many books from Amazon since 1994 (crazy to believe its been in business that long). But I would never order a collectible edition of anything for fear of it getting wrecked in transit. I thoroughly inspected my copy before purchasing it; and mine is a perfectly clean copy with no misprints, dings or staining of the Elvish script on the manuscript edge.That said, this is a beautiful edition. Its interior is the same as the British De Luxe edition, but this version is minus the slipcase, leather binding and extras like the inserted facsimiles of the Leaves from the Book of Marzubal and The King's Letter. You can order that De Luxe version from Blackwell's Books and they will ship it to the US for free in a beautiful box that is printed with the Christopher Tolkien Middle-earth map...and that box is protected inside of a cardboard shipping box. The De Luxe version (ISBN 9780008471293) is more expensive than this one, of course (prices fluctuate).The wonderful thing that this US version has going for it--that the UK De Luxe version does not--is the awesome One Ring script printed on the pages edge. (The De Luxe version has gilt paper instead.) If you're a Middle-earth book collector like me, you must have this version simply for that awesome edge art!Some people have complained that the paper is very thin. I did not notice this. If the paper was thicker the book would be unwieldy.This edition will look awesome in your Tolkien collection; and it has so many beautiful images done by Tolkien himself--some of them works that I had only ever seen at the 2018 Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth exhibition in Oxford.Just make sure you buy it in person and check it for flaws; and support your local indie bookseller.

Got this as a gift for my wife and as she opened it to look through the pages she noticed a page that did not cut correctly causing a couple pages to be ruined.

Nice book, well bound arrived in secure packaging. I’ve read it several times over the years and it’s timeless. Gave this to my son for his birthday and it was very much appreciated.
