Mike Meyers' CompTIA Network+ Guide to Managing and Troubleshooting Networks Lab Manual, 3rd Edition (Exam N10-005) (Mike Meyers' Guides) 3rd Edition

I won't lie, I needed this book as part of my class curriculum. And as many students know, you don't really get the option when it comes to required books. So I would like to direct this review to current and future professors looking for good material. Mike Meyers is a genius writer! His approach is professional but very casual and informal. There is a lot of tongue in cheek humor that broke up the mind numbing passages of protocols and acronyms. He is very easy to relate to, which allowed for a greater level of understanding and overall interest in what he had to say. While my experience is strictly with the Network+ material, I can only assume he is the same in each of his books.Overall, Mike Meyers produces a very successful product that is easy to read and "on a modern level" so to speak. This particular book is only the lab work, exercises to help further understand what you are reading in the main book. I absolutely would not get the main reading material without this lab book, the exercises are in depth and extremely valuable. I passed the test using just this material, and the practice test material provided with the main book. It worked wonders for me!

For those interested in studying for A+ certification or Network+ certification, this book is ok. I highly recommend the teachers edition instead of the student edtition. The student edition is not very organized and while it has participation projects, it all surmises to the book asking you to describe everything. This is more of a student workbook as opposed to a informative textbook.There is little knowledge given in the book and focuses on explaining what your experiences. I can easily get a journal and do alot of what the book suggests on my own without it. The writer is great and his teachers version of the book is amazing. But this version just does not seem well structured and put together. It asks the reader to do certain projects that the book does not neccessarily delve into but briefly. For those seeking books to provide help for certifications, there are better.

Still haven't quite finished the book yet, but it has gone way more in depth with networking protocols than anything that was presented to me before. I KNOW that I am going to pass the Network + test when I am through reading this book. If you ever see this Mr. Meyers, thank you so much and keep up the good work. N00b techs like me really appreciate it!

I needed this lab manual for a college course. It came wrapped in plastic. It has served its purpose very well.
