Break out of your personal prison and take control of your life
If you believe that today is the first day of your life then your best bet is to read Prison Break. Here are just a few of the many ideas that resonated with me:Chapter 1 – The Day the Universe Cut Me Off – there, in that very first chapter I came face-to-face with myself and my “overweight/over-wait” self. I had known for years that I had created my prison, but it wasn’t until I read Chapter 1 that I realized that I could break free!Chapter 14 – The Upside of Comparison – forced me to see that qualities that I encourage others to employ in order to gain success not only are valid but that they apply to me as well as to my friends and colleagues. Taking stock of my strengths, taking inventory of my current goals, and taking the time to meditate when I feel frightened help me reach a state of flow and the ability to do what I need to do. I teach these techniques to others, but not until I read this book did I realize I can call on those techniques whenever I need to.Chapter 31 – At 87 MPH Marty Gets Killed by the Libyans – is a great reminder that it may take just the tiniest bit more effort for you to accomplish your goals. The fact that you aren’t there yet doesn’t mean you can’t make it. It just means that you can’t give up.Chapter 33 – You Say You Can’t Do It… I Agree – taught me that the tools that I’ve used for myself and for coworkers over the years are techniques that I can share with my children and grandchildren to help them with the most important work of all – addressing challenges from the perspective of someone in control instead of from the perspective of a prisoner. But on days when I can’t quite get in command of those critical tools, I can use the robot!!! Trust me, this one chapter justifies the time-and-money cost of the entire book. And then, in the next chapter, JT makes a simple suggestion gives me access to my best life: instead of picturing the rest of your life great detail, picture how you want to feel at the beginning and end of an average day, what you want to create and whom you want to serve during that day. Commit to creating those feelings and accomplishments in your future without having to pre-plan every detail. Finally, remember you always can break the bottle. By the time you finish the book not only will you know what this means, but you also will have the ability to start functioning as a Self Leader.

Self-leadership vs. Prisoner Mindset
So happy I stumbled upon this book. I'm a huge fan of Steve Chandler so when I saw that Jason Goldberg was both a co-host with Chandler on their show as well as a past client of Chander, I wanted to learn more.Prison Break is a brilliant book about all the things you may know about victim mentality and self-limiting beliefs and leading your life, told from a fresh, humorous, one-of-a-kind and engaging perspective. Goldberg is humble, sincere, genuine, and an easy-to-read writer. His story-telling style, including both his own personal journey as well as those of his clients and people who've inspired him, keeps you captivated from start to finish. Sometimes, the analogies go a little too far, and always, they pack a punch. The main concept in this book is to go from the Prisoner Mentality - a prisoner of your own mind, a nice analogy - to a Self-Leadership Mentality, and no kidding, I used the phrase Self-Leadership in my training program a couple of years ago, and have always felt very aligned to it. When we lead ourselves, we are on our way! So thank you, Jason Goldberg, for glorifying Self-Leadership because it NEEDS to be glorified. Taking responsibility and having ownership and then being empowered to do what needs to be done to pull ourselves out of our mess toward our ... own glory! :)What I most enjoyed in this book: The number of unexpected insights. As a business coach, and aI highlighted a ton of stuff which I've made public here on Goodreads. A few of my favorites are below:"But first, ask yourself one question: Are you quitting to avoid something, or are you quitting to create something?"“How can I use the answer I received to illuminate an opportunity I may not have seen previously?”Because this is the day you choose to start playing a new game where you choose to tap into your best self and highest quality of thinking moment-by-moment—from a place of enthusiasm, gentleness, excellence and a spirit of mastery. You are not that fixed persona, though. You have no limit on the awareness you can develop, the person you can become, and the choices you can make regardless of any past personality performance, or perspectives that have been present.Fantastic book. Highly recommend!

A Modern Self-Help Classic
In PRISON BREAK, author Jason Goldberg has penned a modern self-help classic, rich in wisdom and wit, in a voice so personal, it comes across as a series of letters written by a friend. Beyond the courageous narrative of Jason's own journey from "prisoner" to "self-leader," the book offers a generous distillation of entertaining, ingenious, and practical pointers the reader can use to follow Jason's lead and make the same, life-changing transition. On every page, the reader is called to take up creative responsibility for his or her life, to let go of overly limiting assumptions and self-definitions, and call upon the alchemy of choice to transmute adversity into opportunity. While the coaching directions Jason delivers in PRISON BREAK are simple and can be put into practice immediately, their roots reach far deeper than merely "putting on rose-colored glasses" or "making lemonade." Working with the infrastructure of belief, Jason explores and guides the reader in the all-important work of steady and patient self-improvement through responding rather than reacting, engaging the world and others in a spirit of curiosity and collaboration rather than complaint, vanquishing the inner victim, rediscovering the joy of living playfully, the way we did when we were kids, before we learned how to be prisoners. If you're serious about bettering your life from the inside out, you’ll likely find PRISON BREAK an essential resource and reference.

The Prison door wasn't locked after all, who'd a thought it!
37 short, easy to read chapters each with a profound message. Jason has managed something quite amazing here. Unlike the plethora of "self-help" books out there, he manages to deal (sometimes not-so-seriously but with the greatest of respect) with challenges and problems we all share and take so seriously. In his inimitable, quirky way Jason shows us how to get to the root; to the Simple Fundamental Misunderstandings which, once understood, paradoxically dissolve our dilemmas and leave us wondering what the hell was all the fuss about?I especially resonate with the analogy of life as a rollercoaster. Though we may feel sometimes like we are heading to impending doom at 100 mph, just knowing the "ride" has been designed to slow us down at just the right time and maybe even take us through more exhilarating twists and turns allows us to throw our hands in the air and scream at the joy of living! Thanks Jason, great stuff!

Get ready to feel empowered!
This is the book all "victims" should read to snap them out of their false victim-hood!“No matter what problem you may have to face today, there is a solution, because you have nothing to deal with but your own thoughts. As long as you think that your destiny is in the hands of other people, the situation is hopeless. …You have the power to select and control your thoughts, difficult though it may be at times to do so.Remind yourself of this fact constantly. Write it down where you will see it often.Have it on your desk.Hang it in your bedroom. Write it in your pocketbook.Write it on your soul.It will transform your life”Emmet FoxAnd best it's written in a non prescriptive way but with Jason's essential message repeated multiple times in multiple ways, so that hopefully by the final chapter, the reader finally "gets it"!

Deep, yet funny and entertaining...
Jason Goldberg has written a thoughtful, provocative, funny and inspiring book that'll help, well, umm, everybody actually. Jason is in the top 3 story tellers I know. Beautiful, important work - both deep and funny, which is such a challenging balance. Read this book if you're fed up with your excuses, and want to open more fully to who you already are.

Straight talking, transformational fun!!
Humorous and insightful!! This book had been recommended to me by a couple of friends, and I found the anecdotes make it very accessable, like talking to a friend. I found myself chuckling and nodding to myself as I recognised similarities with my past experiences, and who doesn't like references to classic 80s movies along the way!If you are ready to let go of your excuses and assumptions that you are a prisoner and don't have the power to free yourself, and jump into a self leadership mindset you won't regret reading this book
