This board features a visual offset pattern Walnut, White Oak and Jatoba Brazilian Cherry. 100% end grain design. Locally harvested Indiana hardwoods are used and Jatoba is an exotic import. This board is without bottom bumper pads and is therefore usable on both sides. For an optional fee of $5 we are happy to add four corner rubber pads to the bottom, either white or black. This is the exact piece for sale. Printed cutting board care instructions are included. Construction: End Grain: End grain is the best for your knife edge. The orientation of the wood fibers allow them to open up to accept the knife edge, which makes them easier on the edge and has been described as "self healing" in that the small cuts on the surface of the board may close back up to some degree. Overall the main advantages of an end grain cutting board is the durability, ability to hide knife marks, and it will not dull your knives as quickly as plastic, glass or even edge glued wood cutting boards. Glue: Titebond type III waterproof glue, FDA certified as food safe and passes ANSI/HPVA Type I Specification Finish: Our cutting boards are finished with all natural food safe mineral oil. Mineral oil is a non-drying penetrating oil, which means that it will not polymerize (form a plastic-like substance) over time. And unlike a wood surface finish with non-organic chemical based poly, it will not crack or water stain. This is good for oiling wood surfaces that are in contact with water or heat because it will stay a bit liquid in the wood and flow into cracks and scratches. Mineral oil is inexpensive and available at a wide variety of stores. Periodic reapplication of the oil after cleaning the board will return it to like new condition. Have any questions?
