Just like compasses and their metaphorical value :)
For some reason I have a newfound obsession with compasses, understanding them mostly but very much influenced by the "deeper meaning" of a compass: "You're never lost" or "Wherever you go, there you are" or something to that matter. A compass, and this lightweight, larger than I'd like to be (I wanted to make a necklace to be aesthetically pleasing and functional, which by the way, is almost impossible to find), but with leather cord and my imagination, I can make it wearable, like a talisman, which I have many of that have significant affects on my daily life. I play with it all of the time walking around a store just enjoying "knowing where I am" or hearing Moana in my head singing "Come what may, I know the way...". I have no camping or exploration background other than local state parks, but it has a different meaning to me and if I'm even in a situation where I'm actually physically lost, it's accuracy and the glow in the dark feature will make it much easier to be "found". Compass doesn't work for being lost in the heart and mind, unfortunately. As I had mentioned I was happy to see the top was blank and the logo was on the back, so if I wear it, I can engraved it to personalize it( most likely a quote from Moana, and then the heart symbol, yeah I'm more in love with that Movie than my 4 year old), but I need to practice first being new to engraving, polishing, all things I use to make polymer clay beads and pendants for jewelry I make myself. I take on way too many art projects, the downfall of having a creative mind. It's more of a curse than a gift. I thought it would be more like a pocket watch and have a button to snap it open, but it's not a deal breaker. I wouldn't give it a bad review or 1 star over something so minimal, which I've noticed a lot of negative reviews over the dumbest things. It's rude in my opinion. At the very least "I was able to return it for a full refund, despite my lack of use for it because I thought it would be more like an iPhone and have a digital GPS and also sync all of my maps..." Seriously, waste less time on saying "IT SUCKS!" and more time solving the idiot problem you have. Love it! I really do feel like I always know where I am in relation to the rest of the world. It's almost like a social network, allowing me to pinpoint my location in regards to where the Dalai Lama is or where my package from Amazon is coming from according to it's magnetic pull to the north(even though it's not "true north"). So worth the more than reasonable price!

Just okay...good prop...not so good actual compass
Got this for my 9 year old when they were re-enacting the Oklahoma Land Run at school. It was more bought for a prop than actual use, but I still feel it was over priced and if I had bought it to actually use I wouldn’t have been happy with it. It is very flimsy and the needle doesn’t balance well. It is cool looking. My son thought it looked like a real old-time compass...but he’s also 9 and easier impressed than I am, lol. I would have been more pleased with it if I had paid about 5 dollars as in my opinion that was more the price for the quality of it. It did do the job for his program.

Works as well as can be expected for a compass.
This compass arrived without damage and works as designed. Just a couple of instructional notes. 1] The loop is not a handle. Do not hold or pull on it when trying to open the case. 2] Opens easily if you hold by the bottom of the compass and lift the lid at the location of the offset. No, this is NOT a dent. 3] Turn the outside dial to line up the N with the red N on the inside dial. Hold level and the needle will ALWAYS point North. Turn the whole compass so that the N's are lined up with the arrow. This is a compass and the other directions on the dial are then accurate. 4] Night use. Remember that the glow in the dark will only work if the open compass has been exposed to light previous to using in the dark. Align the outside dial as described in step 3. 5] In the dark, you will see the outside dial, and the tip of the arrow. Also, the 2 glow in the dark spots on the inside face (no, they are NOT glue, plugs, or fuzzy spots) -they are glow-in-the-dark locators. 6] Position the needle/arrow between the glowing dots and that is definitely north. Once you know North, you can determine all directions. If not, perhaps you should not be operating a compass or hiking in the woods. This compass was definitely accurate used in this way. Mine arrived in perfect condition, was easy to open, no unexplained dots, and worked at night.

not accurate, cheap.
You get what you pay for; it's not great, but it'll satisfy a little child's desire for a compass. My son is 7, so I should have paid a bit more for much better quality, I would not buy this again. I was hoping to be able to feed his curiosity and teach him how to use it properly etc., but right out of the packet, the needle would stop moving and it felt inaccurate.

DOES NOT WORK
Arrived today in tiny, crushed product box inside an envelope; no shipping protection at all. Top and bottom surfaces were scuffed, looked cheaply packaged and cheaply made. I was willing to overlook all of that if this compass worked, but the compass did not work. The needle will not float evenly, it sticks to toe glass or to the bottom surface. No way to keep it steady on its own. After working hard to get the needle to "float", the needle pointed in every direction. It woyld not stay true north as any compass should. I know it was not expensive to begin with, but I would have gotten a better compass that actually worked at any neighborhood Dollar store. In all seriousness, I had a compass I got out of a Cracker Jacks box years ago that worked better than this "compass". Do yourself a favor; if you are looking for a compass that actually works, keep looking. This compass DOES NOT WORK. Also, I plan on contacting the seller as they weren't very good at packing this piece of junk to begin with.

Excellent Customer Service
My 4 year old wanted a Pete's Dragon themed birthday party. In the movie, Pete steals a compass which is in a similar pocket watch style case. I wanted these for each of the children for a scavenger hunt. Two of them arrived with issues. One had a big bubble in it and the other one was almost impossible to open. I sent an email to this company letting them know about the issues and they were amazing! They quickly sent me 2 replacements so that I would have them in time for the birthday party. I truly felt that they actually cared about the party and me. The customer service was EXCELLENT! The party was a lot of fun and the little 4 year olds LOVED their compasses.
