The Juice Lady's Turbo Diet: Lose Ten Pounds in Ten Days―the Healthy Way!

Put together poorly
While I enjoyed reading this book, it was put together very poorly. To start, the title is slightly misleading. "Lose ten pounds in ten days". Her meal plan is for 7 days, not 10. (14 if you do both or repeat). Not a big deal, but it should reflect her actual meal plan.Next, right before her meal plan, she tells you that for at least the first 3 weeks, omit all starchy vegetables such as yams, corn and peas. Then, in her meal plan, she includes yams, corn and peas. Why tell us to omit these things then include them in your meal plan? She includes a detailed day by day meal plan for the first week. What she doesn't include is a shopping list to go with it. (Jillian Michael's "Master Your Metabolism" provides an awesome shopping plan, which I greatly appreciated).I had to do this manually and it took forever. I'll paste a partial shopping list below, which amounted to high numbers in certain items, like buying 54 carrots for the first week. That's a lot of carrots...She tells you that you should juice fast for one day each week. If we're juice fasting for one day each week while following the meal plan, why does she make the meal plan 7 days? It should either be 6 day meal plan + one juice fasting day, or her 7 day meal plan + the juice fast. Either way, I decided to follow the meal plan for the full 7 days, do the juice fast, then repeat the raw foods meal plan, and then juice fast on the 16th day again. Her meal plan (in my opinion) isn't that great. She includes a lot of obscure items and oversized recipes. For example, she wants me to make 30 some "veggie crackers" according to her recipe. Then, for the meal plan, I'm only supposed to eat one Or, buying a bottle of organic soy sauce so I can use it once in the 7 days. A lot of "1/2" items are included in the shopping list as well, which doesn't make sense, as you don't buy 1/2 of fruit/vegetable items. She should have incorporated full items into the meal plan so that if one day is 1/2 of an item, another day is the other half. Since I'm following the meal plan to a T, 1/2 of a bunch of items I buy will be thrown out because they're not included in the meal plan.Overall I'm a bit disappointed. Good information but not presented well. She shouldn't have tried so hard to include all these different recipes that are often times hard to make or take a long time (like soaking sprouts for a day). Should've just kept things simple so people could follow easy, and included a basic shopping list so it's easier to start. Here's part of the shopping list I made based on the 7 day meal plan with raw foods and 1 day of juicing:UPDATE: I went shopping for the first week today. The cart was filled past the brim and the total cost came out to almost $300 (for the first week, yes). This also excluded a lot of ingredients in her meal plan. I didn't get any corn, peas, yams, the eggplant and half as many tomatoes as she calls for. Also skipped all the seeds like flaxseed and what have you. If you don't go organic this cost would be a lot less, but to me the different is too great not to eat organic now.Carrots:54Cucumbers:14 Cucumbers1/2 English CucumberBeets:3Lemons:15Lime:6 LimesGinger:12 inches of gingerrootApples:4 Green Apples3 Granny Smith1 Regular AppleAvocado:8 AvocadosSpinach:1 Salad's worth + 1 cup + 1 handfulAlmonds:5+ Cups worth at leastTomatoes:1/2 cup sun dried tomatoes26Radish:1 daikon radish1/2 pound of daikon radish10 RadishesOnion:1 yellow onion3 medium onion7 green onions3 white onions1 red onionCelery:16 stalks of celeryBroccoli:1 3/4 pounds of broccoliGarlic:8 fresh garlic glovesCilantro:2 Cups cilantroPeppers:4 red bell pepperground black pepper1 yellow bell pepper2 jalapeno pepperGrapefruit:1 large pink grapefruitLettuce:11 large lettuce leaves (romaine?)4 salad's worth of greens.Milk:4 cup almond milkParsley:2 cup chopped parsley4 handfuls parsleyZuchinni:5 zuchinni2 yellow summer squash zucchini

Very informative book
This was the first book I purchased on juicing, along with my new Breville Fountain Compact Plus juicer. I wanted to start juicing and eliminate all the 'bad' out of my diet. I didn't expect to make a complete transformation, but I did based on what I read.I give this book an A++ from an educational perspective about what we are consuming in America. It was really an eye opener. The diet did work. Although it wasn't my true goal to lose weight (I wanted to juice for better health and hopefully lower my blood pressure naturally), I did lose 8 pounds in two weeks. It is very limited in recipes. The first juice drink I made was distasteful. The second recipe I made was distasteful -- almost gagging on it.Part of the diet has a breakfast that calls for making "sprouted buckwheat grouts" (or something of that nature). Sorry, but if you would see what is required just to get this meal, it really is not very practical for a person with a hectic scheule. It almost made me laugh seeing that I had to sprout it myself over many hours, rinse, cover, etc..... etc.....I wish there had been more practical things to make. A few of the raw dishes (lettuce wraps and asian salad) where very good. The stuffed peppers was not very memorable. All in all, it is not the best choice to get recipes from. From an educational perspective on diet and what to avoid in the grocery store, and having healthy food choices, this book was excellent. Again, I'm a beginner to eating right and there was a lot I didn't know, so I would recommend it highly, but to also get a separate recipe book for juicing if you are just starting out.

Great book!
This is one of the best books out there that talk about getting healthy. I am a true believer that fruits and vegetables are what our body craves in order to be healthy. I am amazed that a big glass of vegetable juice keeps me full for 3 hours. I juiced about 30 years ago for a short time and over the years had forgotten about it. After reading the book, the next day I bought a good juicer. The recipes are nice, but frankly I throw everything I have in. My staples are ginger root, lemon, dash of hot sauce, organic 3 oz tomato paste that I mix in when I'm done. Then it really becomes a V-8 drink. I start with those things and add carrots, celery, beets, herbs, kale, etc whatever I have. I love the drink. I even got my 84 year old friend (I'm 61) onto her book "Living Foods Revolution" and she says she feels like her old self.In order to lose 10 pounds in 10 days I would think you would have to follow the program flawlessly. I don't. I like my glass of wine at 5 o'clock. I will just have to lose my extra pounds slowly, but I will lose them. I am now a juicer for life thanks to Cherie Calbom.PS. The book of Daniel, Chapter 1 verse 12 talks about the power of fruits and vegetables.

My Opinion...yours to try...great book for all
My sister friend has a copy of this book which I'd taken for my own. This book is one I'd like to add to my own collection due to many of the fruit and vegetable combinations which I find absolutely delicious as well as beneficial. The "popeye", "the sweet regularity" are my favorite as this moment however with recipes like "the weightloss buddy" and others how could I resist the temptation of not ensuring I get my own copy of this book with so many delicious healthy juicing's and food recipes: "Halibut" I deviated just a little from the actual recipe and made it my own but it was delicious in the end.Cold soups and smoothies are listed as well as those "juicing" recipes listed above. Try the book!

Juicing
Good book although being American some products are difficult to get here in the UK. Nevertheless, its a good book to get you started and does contain a lot of useful information.

Highly recommended...
Very informative, accessible and motivational. I got everything I needed and wanted in the form of education in juicing from the book and have gone on to become a 'successful juicer' and feel fantastic as a result. Great recipes!
