Because People buy furniture for its finish
The best way that i know to describe the difference between a wood dye and stain is this. Imagine taking a napkin and placing ketchup (stain) on one spot and food coloring (dye) on another. Although both will turn the napkin red, the dye will allow the user to see the detailed intricacies of the print patterns on the napkin while the ketchup will obscure the patterns fine details while still allowing the user view the overall pattern.IMO wood stain is perfectly acceptable and probably preferable when coloring pine, birch and poplar. But when coloring woods that are sought after for their beautiful grain patters (walnut, maple, cherry) a wood dye is the only way to go.Just remember if mixing with water you will raise the grain on whatever wood you are working with, alcohol will not raise the grain of your wood.I was able to achieve the below pictured finishes using a four part finishing system.1. I started by sanding the wood to 220 grit2. i applied a mixture of eight drops of the Yellow Vibrant Wood Dye Liquid to 1 pint of denatured alcohol and applied three coats, allowing dry time between each.3. i applied a mixture of eight drops of the Brown Vibrant Wood Dye Liquid to 1 pint of denatured alcohol and applied three coats, allowing dry time between each.4. then applied a two coats of Zinsser sand and seal thinned to 1 pint zinsser Sand and Seal to 1 pint denatured alcohol.5. I again lightly sanded to 220.6. after cleaning the wood with a tack cloth I applied a coat of gel stain and wiped it off after about a minute.7. i then coated it with Deft clear wood satin from an aerosol can.8. after allowing to dry i wet sanded with 1500 grit sand paper and i ended up with a beautiful finish that is as smooth as glass.Again none of this would have been possible using a wood stain. If your serious about your finish, wood dyes are the way to go. And to that end I highly recommend Vibrant Wood Dye Liquid Offered in 5 Color Liquid Dye Kit - Solvent Alcohol Dye.I feel like this product has allowed me to take my work to the next level. Easy to apply, wood dye.
It was easy to mix,and mix well in water. Application was easy works better with a soft cloth but with gloves on. The dye will discolored your skin. Our project came out great, takes several application for the right affect.

Good product but does require patience for layered applications
Was Fairly easy to mix and apply but needs numerous applications to get the rich hues seen on the how-to videos that are posted on the web. A hue chip chart would be helpful to determine how much dye is needed to obtain the different shades of color purchased.

Top quality aniline dye
This was my first venture using aniline dye. I used it in a lacquer finish that was applied with a spray gun system, also a first. I refinished a les paul guitar in an amber burst or honey burst finish using the amber dye and adding a small amount of brown to darken the amber on the edge. The end product exceeded my expectations. Wear gloves....

I love the colors
I am by no means a woodworking guy and I never did this before but I wanted to make something for my veteran grandfather so I made a wood flag. I love the colors. They turned out better than I expected! Great dye and really easy to use!

I love it
I love it . I was watching a wood project on YouTube . The video turned me onto this dye. I made a couple of chairs . And I dyed them. Then I put a clear coat on . I think they look pretty cool.

great product and easy to use
I used the cherry red with a bit of brown on the body. The tele neck was done with the amber yellow with a bit of brown to give it the burnt maple look and the strat neck was straight up amber. Really great product. I use 70% alcohol as the carrier.

Works as shown on YouTube.
There are lots of good “how to” videos on YouTube on using these dyes on wood. It’s getting pricy for what it is. However, the 5 colours give you lots of colour wheel options, though there is a lot of guessing and hence experimentation. It did a very good job of enhancing the Curley Maple veneer figuring. I was very pleased with the results.
