Q: what is the length on the inside from the back edge to the first step down?

It's buried in snow right now, but I believe about 1.5".

Q: How does it attach to the bucket blade without welding?

They cannot be attached without welding. Also, there is a gap between each tooth and the bucket that has to be filled to keep the tooth from breaking off. Generally, it takes a piece of 1/2" steel plate, but be advised that on a Kubota bucket half of the plate will have to ground to 3/8" along the length of the plate.
