I figured I would just buy one of the more popular units on Amazon that had a good price point
We had a similar model to this unit which dated at least thirty years that finally fell apart from weather exposure.I figured I would just buy one of the more popular units on Amazon that had a good price point. For a fruit picker it comes down to being only as good as the operator. However there are some points that I think may be helpful to others.Pros:1. Deep basket, on smaller fruit you can usually harvest several before having to empty basket. Avocados we can usually pull two to three at a time.2. Foam insert is a nice touch for soft skin fruits like peaches.3. comes with a hose clamp to attach the unit to your pole. Nice addition so you don't have to run to Home Depot, however be warned the pole we used the clamp was too small. Luckily we had larger clamps.Cons:1. If you have extremely large fruit you will have a problem as some will not fit in the basket. My grapefruit tend to be around 1 1/2 larger than a softball and some will not fit in this basket.2. The bent prongs at the end of the picker that are designed to catch the fruit as you pull them off have a tendency to bend. This occurs with our Oranges as the the are pretty well attached to the tree. Our Avocados, Grapefruit, Tangerines, Mandarins etc... no problems.3. The pole we used is a Mr. LongPole. Most common fiberglass extension pole out there. You find them at almost all brick and mortar hardware stores. There are issues using these poles and properly attaching the basket to the pole. (note we did not want a permanent attachment as we use the poles for other things.: These poles use a plastic coupler that attaches the male thread used at the end of the pole to the actual pole. The coupler is actually a larger diameter than the inside diameter of the basket neck. The only way to properly attach the basket to these types of poles, using the Hose Clamp is to slide the basket down so the middle of the neck is roughly at the center point of this coupling and then clamp. Remember the clamp that comes with the unit will not work here. Fully expanded it will not fit. If you pull the neck of the basket below the coupler, you could use the hose clamp that came with the unit, however about four inches of your pole would be sticking into the basket. See the pic I attached which explains all this.Overall for the money its a decent product. I give it a couple of years of use before it needs replacement. I think next time all opt in and buy the Phoenix model with the bag and stem cutter.

Simple yet functional
I don't own an orchard and the few small fruit trees in my back yard hardly produce enough fruit to make it worthwhile to pick. I got this primarily to retrieve fallen fruit from the ground so they don't attract rats. The trees hang too low to do crawl under them comfortably and there are always bees around the trees. So what I'm saying is I certainly don't need a fancy pro model fruit picker. This is one of several identical looking models in the economy range. This product is the basket only - no handle. The same thing with a handle is unreasonably more for some reason so I just temporarily take the handle off a mop for the few times I need to use the picker. On the plus side it does what it's supposed to for oranges, lemons and tangerines and average size grapefruit. It’s too large for limes. It's a simple plastic-coated metal wire device that appears to be a good value. It looks like it will last a reasonable amount of time. There are no moving parts on this style, you just push it so the fruit is inside the basket and use the bent metal fingers grab it off the branch. It also works well for fallen fruit.Since it does what it's supposed to I am satisfied with it.

Helps me pick lemons
I use it to pick lemons in the backyard. It was attached to a long pvc pipe and does the trick, no more ladders!I did notice the top hook area could be narrower as sometimes branches go through it easily.

Great for baby birds too!
This picker is not just good for fruit, but also great for baby birds. You just wait for them to poke their little heads above the nest and hook up...Just kidding...please dont call peta, I would never do that. I dont think it would work for that anyways, since most baby bird heads are smaller than crab apples, which are also too small to get hooked by this. It works great though. the basket is deep enough to pick 2 to 5 apples depending on their size and with a pole about 10 ft long I can pick apples about 12 to 14 ft off the ground. Also, my neighbors tree was loaded this year so I used two rubber bands to attach a small flashlight to the pole just behind the basket and took a third of his apples in the middle of the night without him noticing...just kidding again, but this thing really does work well. Also, (no joking this time) I recommended it to the local fire department for the purpose of rescuing kittens, especially since it has the foam padding to keep their tails from getting bruised when they fall in. They said they would call me if they needed assistance rescuing kittens in the future! Im so excited, I hope they let me wear a hat and ride in the fire truck. Sorry for any poor grammar or mispellings in this comment, Ive been drinking home made hard apple cider in larger quantity thanks to my new apple picker.

Good value, quality
I bought this because of the price. It's the same quality as more expensive offerings. It easily attaches to a 1" pole or broomstick, using a screwdriver and the supplied clamp.I have only used it on one occasion, but it seems to be durable. I'm happy with it.

Good unit at a good price
Good price for a good product.(Don't be thrown by reviewers saying "mount won't clamp down tight enough"- If you're using an undersized pole, just give the end of it a few wraps with waterproof tape to increase diameter to give clamp sufficient purchase.)
