I put this radio on a Motorola Service Monitor to put it thru its paces. Icom makes fantastic Amateur Radio equipment- and this marine VHF radio is no exception! The receiver is very sensitive- a hallmark of Icom. Transmit power was 23 watts across voltage variations from 11-14 volts (the kind of voltage swings you see on a boat). Low power was 0.75 watts. Transmitted audio was a strong 4kHz- loud and clear. The non-removable microphone is a quality product. Icon did not skimp. The GPS is rock solid and worked even in my basement as I tested it. I applied for my free MMSI number (online) and entered that into the radio. You only get ONE CHANCE to do this! Do not make a mistake- as you cannot correct this error. The radio must be returned to the factory to clear the MMSI number. Therefore, this radio will always remain with this boat. I connected the radio to an outside antenna. Weather broadcasts (WX) were loud and clear. Over the weekend, It heard one of the DISTRESS activations using the MMSI technology. It was 41 miles away and the radio calculated a bearing to this vessel. The USCG responded. All in all, this is a fantastic radio and a great value for the price. NW2M

cant here the radio when running on plane and i have a windshield on a 23ft i can here my other radios but not this gotta spend more on a amped ext speaker
