Great overview
The ARRL Operating Manual provides a great, easy-to-understand overview of amateur radio practices and activiies.I recommend it highly to anyone thinking of taking up this hobby and to any existing "hams" who want to brush up on actities of the hobby they have not yet tried. As this book demonstrates amateur radio provides a wide range of opportunities and possible experiences, bound to engage people of widely varying interests. There are technical challenges to those so inclined and there are social activities to those of that bent. Public service is a great opportunity to hams of all types.Years ago I listened in as a doctor at Yale guided a missionary in Brazil through a difficult birth delivery via an amateur radio "phone patch". I have in the past participated in handling message traffic between sailors at sea and their loved ones at home. and I have communicated with people in and outside the U.S. by Morse Code (CW) and by voice (SSB). This book describes similar events and many others reflecting my past use of amateur radio so I know that it presents a true picture of this fascinating hobby.Licensing no longer requires any Morse Code capability so it has become even more accessible than it was when I started. I recommend this book to any who think they might be interested in ham radio.

New Tech License? You Need This Book!
If you’ve just gotten your ticket, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this book. That said, you need to understand what it is not. It is not a comprehensive guide to antennas (the Antenna Book is) or the definitive guide to ham radio (buy the ARRL Handbook for that). The Operating Manual is a solid introduction to amateur radio written especially for new hams. Get it - you’ll refer to it often.

Excellent Resource
I've been a ham since 1973 and wanted to learn more about some of the newer digital modes and satellite communication. While this is not the most comprehensive book, it gives a great insight and resources to learn more about the hobby. Mostly, technical books are rather dry in nature, but this book kept my interest and I read every page. Whether you are an old-timer in the hobby or just interested in Amateur (Ham) Radio, this is an excellent book by the ARRL.

This is a good solid overview of the many aspects / interest areas of Amateur Radio and the basics ( plus links for additional information ) of how to operate or participate in these activities. Highly recommended for anyone new to Amateur Radio or interested in finding out about it. Even for someone like me who has been involved for lots of years there was new and interesting info since my old copy was quite old!

Absolutely essential for new amateur radio operators
Downloaded instantly and works like a champ. Excellent writing and easy to understand. Written by a ethical person and a super smart Ham. An essential read for any new amateur radio operator. Answers nearly every question on how to setup and operate and amateur radio. This was a bargain although I would have loved to had the money to buy the hardback copy of it.

Seems pretty comprehnsive
New to Ham radio. Have taken it up in my old age. Do not have the knowledge to judge this. However it seems to be pretty comprehensive and presents a wealth of information. Overall I think it will be very helpful as I progress in this hobby.

Good overview of ham radio operation
Good overview of various aspects of ham radio, nothing too ridiculously heady in here and enough to spark interests in various parts of the hobby. Being on the Kindle is handy enough, but almost wish I'd have ponied up for the print version. I like dog-eared books with lots of underlining and notes in the margin.

Excellent read for the beginning or seasoned Ham!
A very informative manual referencing the many facets of amateur radio. The manual is not super detailed, but provides enough info in each subject area. A great & I formative reference.
