"The secret source" will give the reader a background on the origins of new thought.; from mesmerists such as Phineaus Quimby; Mary Baker Eddy Christian Science Movement "Church of Christian Science", Emanuel Swendenborg as well as various Rosicrucian organizations and Hermetic brotherhoods. Which pretty much make up the secret. Which isn't a secret at all. This book adeptly draws parallels between Hermes Trismegistus, Thoth, and Jesus the Christ. The section (five) on the Holy Hermetic Writings which entails teachings on the Emerald Tablet and Holy Grail (very interesting).A very thought provoking book, which resonates on many different higher levels. It may very well come down to its cover, and judging the book by this alone (no pun intended). The third eye or the "Penal Gland" which is the key to it all.

This was very interesting...
For the most part, they made me forget all about Rhonda Byrne, which was not really hard, even though I'm currently reading her latest book.Essentially what the author did here was provide a history of the New Thought movement, which is pretty much where Rhonda Byrne is cribbing her stuff from. So I had a good time immersing myself in a side of esoteric thought that I wasn't as well versed in.Then at the end, they brought it all back around again, and asked the question: Even if you believe this stuff (which I do), is it really a good thing if you actually *get* everything you want? What about people that want bad stuff? This book provided a reminder that while you're busy asking the Universe for *stuff*, the best thing you can ask for, the thing you should probably ask for first, is wisdom.

Honest explaination of widely misunderstood information.
I appreciate honesty and clarity in books about wisdom, both esoteric and "common knowledge." Both D'Aoust and Parfrey provide that honesty here. I felt comfortable that what I was reading was like good journalism, presenting the facts with no bias, leaving me to digest what this information means to me in my particular search. I consider this one of my tools in my search for growth.

Infinite learner
I choose this book to learn more about esoteric principles and teachings. Excellent text!! Know thyself and develop an understanding of the Nu.In addition, esoteric knowledge should not to be taken lightly it is a huge responsibly. Excellent reading research suggestion by Bobby Hemmit How will this knowledge be used to help all mankind? It is not for self serving personal gain.

Uninformed, Redundant, and Fake
The book indeed provides an accurate sequence of the high moments in the history of American prosperity consciousness as a distinct set of intellectual and spiritual movements, the people, writings, and manners of disbursing its information and its basic presence on the urban frontier of late nineteenth and early twentieth century America. To this extent, the book's treatment of the social evolution and geographic migration of the documents and their operations is accurate. In the interest of truth, carefulness, and exactness it must also be stated that the book appears to the trained eye as a silly rewrite and clumsy collation of some heretofore unknown and now pilferednotes of Manly P. Hall. I expect better from Adam Palfrey.

Shallow
This book makes an historical commentary on various supposedly Hermetic matters. It doesn't actually tell you anything of use, discusses various esoteric orders without knowing anything about them, and seems to be a largely uninformed, distant commentary on some of the most profound (and commercially abused) philosophy of the last 100+ years. If you want to find anything useful, go to the source material like "The Kybalion" or Israel Regardie's and the Ciceros' Golden Dawn material, or read Lon Milo Duquette's current, practical and useful books.I guess some people just want to be published authors regardless of bland, banal content - no legacy and little self-respect.
