The Book of Beasts: Color & Discover Hardcover – November 1, 2016

This may not be to everyones liking. I think the pages are plenty heavy enough but, since there is printing on both sides I would not use gel pens or markers on the pages. I would make copies on other paper to use more than just pencils just incase there is some bleed through. I loved all the line art. There are many beasts I've never heard of and the information pages are very helpful. I especially like that the larger pictures are quite detailed and even though I wouldn't use gel pens I will use metallic pencils, lots of blending, and unexpected colouration to achieve dramatic and unusual pictures.

This book is absolutely beautiful. I purchased as a gift for my daughter (14), and she loved the information on each creature. My son(16) swiped it and colored in a few pictures and asked why I didn't get him one as well. Very good quality and bigger than I thought it would be. Great buy!

This book is beautiful, detailed, imaginative, and my 10 year old nephew loves it! The book feels sturdy, the cover is regal, and the illustrations are pretty cool- my nephew seems to think so- wasn't sure if he'd like it, and he played it cool when I gave it to him (we live in New York City), and apparently as soon as he and his mom got on the train he started coloring in it and didn't put it down for about a week! I'm glad I gave this one a shot. :)

Great detailed coloring book with a hard cover. The 12yr old who received it is very pleased. He plans to color it and keep it as a “reference book.”Note: I was disappointed, after choosing to buy “new” rather than “used with cover damage,” that the “new” book I received had a marred cover and the blue book edges were already worn away to the white paper. I’d say it was in “used very good” condition by the time I got it. This book could probably benefit from being wrapped in plastic when shipped - so it doesn’t get damaged. The cover is perhaps not the most durable hardback.

Let me begin by saying that I was already familiar with the artist.I own three of her prints,so I was sure,sight unseen,that I would love this book.I was NOT disappointed.The drawings are beautifully detailed but not so complicated that you'll throw your hands up in frustration.It includes both small and large illustrations,and information about each creature.This is the sort of book you will want to color carefully and then hang onto,or give to someone who loves mythology,as a gift.The hard covers are nice and sturdy so no worries about it falling apart.I love it!

I bought one of these for everyone in my family--- the pictures are a delight to color, and there's a boatload of fun mythological information about each picture. It's a solid introduction to mythological creatures, and the hardcover makes it feel like a keepsake. It's a steal at $5.

I absolutely love this book. Hardcover. Paper quality is excellent for markers/inks. They identify many creatures of folk lore. Love the artist rendering of each of them. Highly recommend this book for intermediate and advanced colorist.

This is a really nice book. It is hard backed with images on one side and a lighter image with a description on the back. So, technically you could color both. The paper is pretty good to where it would take pencils well and gel ink pens. I don't know how markers would do, but since there isn't an image to ruin on the back you may be okay using markers with a protector page. The images are of beasts of legends ranging from trolls and orcs to dragons and the lock ness monster. Some pages have only one large drawing and other have as many as five smaller ones. Very nice book.

Very well-bound, great quality paper, and beautiful illustrations on the inside. I have gifted it twice and almost want to get into colouring to get one for myself!
