This saved me HUNDREDS of $$$$, no need for an RF remote!
THIS IS A 5 STAR ITEM!!!!!!!! Honestly this thing works better than I could have ever imagined and saved me LOTS of money! It works with my Uverse total home DVR box, the normal wired Uverse box, and the Uverse wireless Cisco box. It also works with my new Yamaha RX-A830 audio receiver. I have yet to try it with the Amazon Fire TV box or an Apple TV which are the last 2 devices I need to control. So here is the background: I built a home theater and decided to hide all of the boxes in a cupboard above the TV area which can't be seen. I wanted to control all the devices without having to open the cupboard door and ideally using just 1 remote control. I was ready to spend $350 on a Universal RF touch remote when shoppers history on Amazon pointed me to infrared remote control extenders/repeaters. I was scared from the reviews that it may not work with the Uverse wireless box but it totally does. it can detect ANY IR remote I have tried and from distances much further than some of my devices! (the yamaha receiver needs to be pointed at directly with its own remote and not from too far but with this receiver/transmitter it works from much further away without the aim needing to be accurate). I have the USB plugged into the back of the Uverse wireless box. It seems to work well on any of the USB ports on my TV, both on my verse box, and even the 2 found on the receiver. There are ONLY two downsides for me. The first is that this solution requires you to use every remote control you would normally use instead of having 1 universal remote UNLESS you also buy an IR universal remote along with this device which is cheaper than buying an RF remote. The second downside is that the transmitter end really is just made for 1 device, it is designed to stick to the face of the device and control it. I need it to be able to transmit to 4-5 devices all in the same cupboard so what I did was I cut the IR blaster end off and then I took the IR blaster that came with my Samsung TV which is designed for multiple devices, I cut the connector off and spliced it to the IR transmitter and TA-DA it now sends all of the signals to the entire inside of the cupboard. It isn't a fault of the device as I knew what I was buying and that is why I did not take off any stars. I hope they come out with a model with a larger IR blaster at the end.

Great price and works as expected.
Does exactly what expected. Now I can hide the ugly cable box. The installation Instructions are a bit lacking.Be sure to install the RECEIVER unit so the largest area is facing the room or you will have a difficult time getting the remote to work.

Not that great
It doesn't work that well. I placed the IR Receiver approximately 8 feet away from remote position and it barely works. The receiver can barely see the signal from my set-top remote (with fresh batteries). The angel to the IR receiver is approximately 20 degrees left and 20 degrees up. I do like how it's powered by USB, so I can plug it into my TV and it automatically turns on when needed. Also, there's handy a green LED on the receiver that blinks orange when IR signal is received. The stronger the signal, the brighter the orange. The sticky-tape is nice too. Great concept - just wished it worked better.

Works perfect and easy to customize to my application
My grandparents have a TV and cable box upstairs, and a splitter runs a coax line down to the TV on the main level as well. After grandma fell and had hip surgery they tend to spend the majority of their time on the main level now. They could watch TV downstairs but could not change the channel. This setup only comes with 10 feet of wire but it is a very simple apparatus, the wire running to the emitter is basically just regular speaker cord. If you need more range (like I did to get from upstairs on one side of the house to downstairs on the other) just go to radio shack and get yourself a 50 foot spool of 14 gauge speaker wire. I cut the wire between the emitter and receiver, and put that entire 50 foot spool of wire between them, and it still worked perfectly once it was all setup. This one did not come with the USB power supply, as others slightly more expensive on amazon do. I figured that from the photo, and I had plenty of extra AC-to-USB adapters around from old cell phones so that was fine, saved $5-10 bucks. As I think others have noted the emitter has to go pretty much directly over the sensor of whatever you are hoping to control from a distance. Even before I cut the wire and made it longer I could see the emitter is very weak and not designed to work from a distance. That could be problematic if you wanted to control more than one device. If you are clever you could probably wire in another emitter or two on your own, its just a special LED that radio shack also sells. No idea if there is enough power to run two emitters or not but for $10, I'd give it a shot, or somewhere on here they have one with two emitters at the end already.Very handy anyways and easy to setup and hack a bit if you need a bit more than it gives out of the box.

Worked well until it stopped working
Emitter was small and easy to hide and I was able to power the unit via the USB port from my Comcast cable box, thereby not having to use a power outlet. Worked great for a month; then it stopped working right after it was eligible to be returned. I used a digital camera to verify that the emitter repeats the signal, but it appears to be too weak to control my TV. This IR repeater seems similar to others. Now I'm leery of purchasing a replacement that looks just like this one.

Product works but it's fragile.
The product worked well for a week. But the one day it stopped working - I tried repositioning the transmitter attached to the cable box but no luck. I opened it up and it turns out the cabling on the IR transmitter had broken at the solder. I reattached it carefully and it works again just fine.Extremely convenient for us as we've hidden the cable box inside a 'secret' compartment in the mantle. It's powered off the tv's USB port so just one small lead runs to the cable box. For the price, I don't mind the minor trouble of fixing the attachment, but for someone who isn't DIY/ electronically inclined - this would lead to an unusable product.

Does the job at minimum cost
Got a new solid door television cabinet which houses the Humax HD Freeview box.Stuck the transmitter end over the sensor on the Humax (you can see it if you shine a torch on the front) the receiver on the outside of the cabinet and plugged the USB into the back of the Humax. The only small downside is that the USB powers down when the Humax is on standby so it has to be started using the front button. Otherwise it does the job and is sensitive at any reasonable distance and angle.Been in use for three weeks so far.

Transmitter does not send a STRONG signal. Transmitter part ...
Transmitter does not send a STRONG signal. Transmitter part HAS to be glued exactly on the receiver sensor, otherwise the signal is not strong enough.
