Just to be clear: I was looking for an inexpensive way to try matcha out, and I live 30 miles from any coffee shop that sells prepared matcha products. So I went into this with NO idea what to expect. This came fast, was packaged fine, and when I opened it, the powder smelled like a hay field. (Good thing? bad thing? I don't know. But it did.) It was, as another reviewer mentioned, more of an olive drab color than a bright spring green. But this is my first foray into Matcha, so I don't know, again, if that's good or bad. I mixed 1/2 teaspoon with 3 oz of hot water. (In a mixing bowl with an egg whisk - no special equipment until I decide if this is going to be a thing for me.) It whisked up a pretty respectable top froth--more than my research suggested I could expect from my unspecialized equipment. And then I tasted it.To be fair, I don't drink coffee because I don't like bitter things. I do drink unsweetened green and black teas, so I thought I had an idea of what I would taste. This was WAY more bitter than my previous tea experience prepared me for. Maybe that's just me being naive to the ways of matcha. I almost couldn't finish it plain and hot. (But this is culinary grade - I tried it the purist way first so I'd know exactly what I was dealing with, but even the maker recommends it more for latttes, smoothies, and cooking.) The powder does try to settle, but, determined to finish it, I kept swirling the bowl and sipping. About 1/4 of the way through I added more water so I could finish it. By the end I could taste some notes other than bitterness. There were definite grassy undertones, and a note or two that almost seemed vegetal. Texture was a bit noticeable. I wouldn't call it "gritty" exactly, but particulates were noticeable. It wasn't a smooth suspension. I probably will not do this hot again, at least not until I've cultivated a taste for it. But will try it mixed into smoothies etc., and see if the health benefits and "calm, focused energy" are all they're cracked up to be. For hot drinking, I'll read reviews and find something less bitter. I didn't know what to expect, and my reflections should be taken as such. I'm not turned off to the brand or the product, and if you like bitter tastes (and lots of people do) you may like this fine.Had to go back and edit: After 2 weeks, I'm hooked. It was way too strong for me the way I tried it first, but after finding my own ideal balance, I drink this iced for breakfast in a protein shake, and iced unsweetened as an afternoon pick-me-up. First taste was a shock, but this really does grow on you. (and the "calm focused energy" IS what it's cracked up to be!)

Shipping was fast, packaging was very good, and price point was excellent. Product itself appears to be just what I ordered (but then how would I analyze this?) I would recommend to others and will buy again myself.

You get what you pay for. If you don’t want to pay a lot, then you have to accept lower grade matcha.
