Excellent and thorough book
This book gives a full and comprehensive look at Mr. Gates.

Just "okay"
Plenty of good quotes in this book, but be aware that that's all it is - quotes. Nothing else, really. Very quick read but probably worth it for the price.

Impatient Optimist: Bill Gates in His Own Words (But, WithOut Context
“Impatient Optimist” was good, and interesting; however, it would make a better companion piece than a ‘Go To’ reference. In a whole-cloth perspective, the book provides a succinct boiled-down take using the words of the Bill Gates. Somehow though I feel Mr Gates has not had the same opinions all his life. So, with that in mind one needs to purchase a book that will take the Date, Location, and Publication sources given, and tie them together with what-was-going-on Bill Gates life at that time.

Great book on how Gates think and work.
Terrific book on what Gates thought about business, technical, social issues and more. Short bits and pieces of common sense and ethics. I first found this book in a Beijing bookstore. Ordered it when I got home.

Not Good
This is just a compilation of quotes. No substance! Didn't read it! Glad it was a freebie on Amazon and I did't spend good money for it.

Gates
Not bad but a little fragmented. Really just a log of his actions and quotes. He was wrong sometimes and right sometimes in his predictions of current events but still interesting

Curiously Unsatisfying
Composing a book purely by stringing together quotes from various speeches or publications left me completely unsatisfied. Yes - obviously Bill is a sharp and savvy guy who has some meaningfully things to say. Yes - the book did bring across that point very well. What I kept asking myself - "OK, why did he say that?". I'd really have loved to see some context for the various quotes. What caused Gates to make them? What did he do after he said them? Did he just make the comments because they are intellectually cool or politically correct, or are they something that reflect his basic character or motivations?

Impatient Optimist
The book was not what I had expected. I enjoyed many of Bill's "quotes" and underlined quite a few. But I had expected to read more about his life, marriage and children. I am fascinated with Melinda and how marriage changed Bill. Essentially this book is just a compilation of things Bill, and occasionally Melinda, have said and what the topic of what they said is under. Poor excuse for a book. Fortunately Bill is still worthy of underlining!
