VG289Q - excellent value for money
Colour reproduction is very good. 90% DCI-P3 is 113% of sRGB. The IPS panel ensures the colours are done justice. It's 4K (should speak for itself). 60Hz is to be expected. But remember there are 4x as many pixels being refreshed 60 times per second compared to a 1080p monitor. The peak brightness is fine... 350 nits compared to 400 nits is no difference at all. Don't let the fact that it's not quite HDR400 bother you, you aren't missing anything. The HDR quality is quite a cinematic upgrade from SDR video. The speakers are awful... but nobody uses monitor speakers in 2020. There's no such thing as good monitor speakers. A monitor with good speakers is called a TV set by my account. It can display the gaming crosshairs and all that gamer's mumbo jumbo, but more importantly it has more comfortable menu overlay. And the joystick makes it easy to navigate. You can adjust brightness and blue light modes and change HDR mode. You can even choose to confine the colour gamut to range of sRGB, where it would approximate the colour space of 100% sRGB (but I don't know why you would choose to see less colour). For the price of £350 (which is what I paid), you really can't beat this monitor as of March 2020. It rotates so you can have the screen vertically aligned. By swivelling it vertically, you can have a phone-like orientation so you can view lists and the length of a word document in 4K. If you have a better monitor than this, then this feature would be good for you. The monitor stand also lets you adjust the height... and I can tell you that the screen moves up pretty high and down pretty low. And you can adjust the angle so that you don't have to crane your neck or turn your head. The monitor can face you without having to move the stand. In order to make the most of this monitor, you will need to have an iGPU equalling or bettering the Intel HD 620 series. In terms of dedicated GPUs, I'd recommend the Nvidia GT 1030. For 4K movies running on Windows, an iGPU may struggle with codec and take a massive toll on system performance. A dedicated GPU (recommending the GT 1030) capable of displaying 4K at 60Hz over DisplayPort will be able to run high resolution and frame rate videos without stuttering or lack of responsiveness. For consoles, I would also say that a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X will make the more of this monitor in YouTube, Netflix and Blu-Ray (provided your internet connection speed is about 3MB/s or faster, and that you actually put a 4K Blu-Ray disc into the Blu-Ray drive). Other than that... gud monitor, little $.

Great monitor, just be patient with it if you use Display Port.
Before I begin this review, I feel like it's best to say what I've moved from and how I'm limited/unable to utilise all of the features (currently). Keep that in mind for this version of the review. I'm running this monitor an AMD R9 Fury X using DisplayPort 1.2 as the optimum connection for the moment. This means that I do not have access to HDR, the full 144hz (I'm capped at 60), and some other features just yet. Once the AMD RX7900XTX releases, I will be upgrading to that, and will try to remember to revise this review when I can to better cover the full featureset. With that said, moving from a 27" 2560x1440~144hz TN monitor has been great because the colours, the viewing angles, and the pixel density (visual clarity) is incredible. Despite being 1" bigger than my old monitor, it provides approximately 1.5x the pixel density with 2.25x the resolution, and it's noticed immediately. The monitor is a true joy to look at and in my personal set-up, and the PPI x distance from my screen (30 inches away) means that it achieves greater than 'retina' effect. (for reference, this monitor at 28" requires 22 inches of distance to be classified as 'retina' by Apple trademark standards). One issue with this monitor is getting the Display Port connection to work properly. I managed to get it working, and then it stopped, and now it works again. Can I explain why this happened and how I fixed it? No, not really. I just had to keep attempting everything I could to get it to connect. Changing the cable, unplugging and replugging, changing the monitor feed to DP1.2 instead of 1.4, rebooting my PC many, many times... In the end, something clicked and the monitor has worked flawlessly since. Googling it didn't provide much help other than letting me know it's not an unheard of issue, but it works now. Because of this, I don't turn it off using the power button on the back of the screen, but thankfully it does have an automatic sleep timer where it will go into standby mode if no signal activity is detected (and power up when there IS signal detected) - while also not having any indicator lights. For some people, there lack of an indicator may be offputting, but for me, I think it's a plus because it just looks cleaner. Overall, I'm really loving it, and definitely recommend this monitor so far.

Excellent Value For Money
This monitor has a decent picture, refresh rate and Gsync making it a great gaming monitor. I have a 3090 graphics card I care more about a consistent frames per second than having a stupidly high resolution. QHD is a great compromise for me in that there’s a much higher pixel density than HD but I can still run modern games on maxed out settings - this will depend on your graphics card though. There’s some useful additional features such as ‘training mode’ where you can get the monitor to display a target on the centre of the screen. This is useful for some shooters when the game doesn’t display a target and you have to use gun sights eg allowing you to accurately headshot when firing from the hip. Overall I think this a great monitor for the money
