A fascinating look at an obscure subject.
To say that this reprint of a book written shortly after World War I discusses the subject of personal body armor during the war in more detail than other works of the period would be a gross understatement. Not only does it describe many forms of helmets and torso armor that I had never so much as heard of in all my reading of military history, it also goes into depth about their development, manufacture, and effectiveness. In addition to the forms that were actually fielded, it examines the many experimental designs that were not adopted. Excellent reference work.

This is the seminal work for the helmet collector. ...
This is the seminal work for the helmet collector. Bashford Dean was instrumental in the design of the venerable US M1 helmet. Written in 1920 This volume traces the helmets and body armor of the early 20th century to that of the classical period of European suits of armor. Detailed are the design and manufacture of the m1917, 1917 A1, and all of the experimental models in the run-up to the development of the M1. this is an essential primary source for your reference library.combathelmets.blogspot.com

Recent armor detailed at last in scholarly form.
There is no other place in which to find this information. Modern armor expertly described as if it were fifteenth century artifacts.

Superb study
This is the iconic standard study of the subject. Dr. Dean was curator of arms and armor at the Metropolitan Museumfor many years. His personal collection was world class.
