It attaches easy, appears relatively sturdy and has a good grip
I was not planning on purchasing this item, however I recently bought a dash cam, and the suction pad would not adhere to the matrix dots (the slightly raised bumps on the top of the front windshield) I cannot understand why car manufacturers continue to put those things on modern cars, but I digress. I was therefore faced with a dilemma, either buy a suction cup mounting pad, which may leave glue reside on the windshield, or buy this to mount around the rear view. I chose the less messy choice and i do not have any complaints. It attaches easy, appears relatively sturdy and has a good grip.*Just make sure your device has the ball mounting port before purchasing this item or it will not attach. I have noticed a few newer devices are coming with some fancy mounting ports that will not be compatible with this item.*

Black Box G1W-CB DashCam
I bought this for my G1w-cb dashcam to mount on my 2014 Ford Focus SE rearview mirror. Installation is super easy and my dashcam slides into mount easily and securely. My state laws do not allow attaching "extras" via suction cup to the inside windshield so this works great. Plus I want to make sure, in case of an impact/ accident, the dash cam stays securely in place to catch all the details after said incident. Only issue is that I can't fully see my lcd screen on my dashcam because the mount does not extend far enough down behind my mirror. I actually like this though because it make the dashcam less of a distraction while driving and also makes it far less noticeable to other drivers or cops. I definitely recommend this mount.

Sturdy rearview mount for my G1W dashcam, although installation can be slightly frustrating
I recently received a G1W dashcam as a gift, and don't like putting suction cup mounts on my windshield. This popped up in an Amazon search so I ordered it, since the 'mountable space' on my rear view mirror was adequate according to this product's specs. I will say that if I were mounting this on my bicycle, the installation would be extremely easy since everything is out in the open, and I would trust the sturdiness of this mount on my bicycle. Mounting it in the cramped space behind the rear view mirror is not so easy, since it is difficult to see what you're doing. I left all of the rubber shims in, tightened it down, and then realized that I needed to add another shim. This process was only slightly frustrating; In general, if I had been able to find a clamp with a strong spring on it, that would have been adequate for my needs. Once it was all set up, it works well. My particular rear view mirror also has compass and other indicators under the mirror surface itself, and once I put my dashcam in, I could not see the whole dashcam screen. Not a big deal, since the dashcam screen saver kicks in after 5 minutes. Some type of extender would be nice to resolve this.

Much Better than the Suction Cup Mounts
I purchased this to replace my suction cup mount on my G1W dashcam. The construction is plastic, but durable and easily adjustable. The dashcam does not hang down from the mirror too far, and is much more solidly attached than the old suction cup mount I used.My only gripe is that there was not enough padding included to properly fit this mount against my mirror mount. I just shoved some foam between the empty space, and that seemed to do the trick though. When tightened down, the dashcam does not even vibrate during hard acceleration, turns, and braking. I have not had it fall on me once since I've installed it. Definitely worth the purchase.

Can the Seller post how big of an opening the hole is? I only see the 2cm length
I am rating it 3 stars because it is okay... It barely fits by 2015 VW Passat but it is really awkward because the mirror arm is rather thick and then gets very skinny so there isnt much room to play with. It also doesnt clamp down fully so you are left with a pressure point on your mirror where the sharp opening is (could cause scratches). I removed it and used the suction cup that came with my G1W-C (which is much better and i have more options for placement. I should not have jumped right in and bought this like everyone else. Why cant they post the diameter of the opening so us BUYERS can measure? I will be returning. If it fit properly I would be more excited about it. The ball on the end to move the camera around works great and fits the camera they said it fits.EDIT:I just thought to myself... why don't I post the number. At the smallest crossing you can fit a little over 1 INCH (if you take out the two plates they added for flexibility). At the longest crossing (bare in mind this is oblong) you can fit no more than 1.25 INCHES (and that is pushing it depending on the shape of the mirror).

perhaps ok for some users- not for me.
Unfortunately, this mount although well designed---- l had to do some modifications for it to adapt to my car camera-once it was mounted to the review mirror it was impossible to work the camera controls without removing the camera from this mount- so if you want the cars camera controls inaccessible then this is the mount to buy.

... year ago and the original suction cup point worked fine until it broke
I bought the dashcam over a year ago and the original suction cup point worked fine until it broke. Not a big deal, it's plastic and sits in the sun all the time so I knew it would happen eventually. Ordered this mount and it installed easily, came with the part that attaches to the camera to mount it to this mount but I didn't need it as that part was the same as what the camera came with, so I already had it. I've had it installed for over a week or so now and couldn't be happier with it. It is well worth the $8 I paid for it.

It broke less than 2 months in
This mount broke on me randomly while attached to the rear view mirror and a g1wc. I owned it for a little over a month, came out to my car to find the plastic mount around the mirror arm broken. Weather is cold here in Canada, was down around -20 or so when it broke. Disappointed to say the least
