Hardened, does it mean the shackle is just steel or some form of boron or carbide that supposedly makes it harder to cut? My bike is dear to me.

Hardened, to me, means that the steel has fewer impurities. If I had an good bike, I would probably use at least 2 locks and a tracking device attached. My friend has a really ugly bike and a really good looking bike. What most people don't know is the really ugly bike is worth more that the good looking bike, and nobody steals the ugly bike. I bought this lock for a storage unit. I also bought it because it was made in Germany. Solid as can be!
