Augason FarmsCreamy Stroganoff 2 lbs 0.2 oz No. 10 Super Can

I made the mistake of buying 2 of these because I love stroganoff. But then I cooked it and poured myself a big plate of it....then threw it in the garbage. Its slimy and tasteless. But the slimy texture turned me off.

We finally tried it tonight. And its definitely edible, we added 2020 dehydrated beef to it, also needed salt & pepper. It was getting better. My only complaint is the can & package inside the #10 can says “contains a bioengineered ingredient” that is information not in the description.

Dehydrated food isnt my go-to for day day use. Price is prohibitive, and often so is taste. But do you want to know what IS great about this? It has a 25 year minimum shelf life and will provide much needed calories when needed. Please make a plan to beef up your pantry and/or set aside a closet or something to stack some food and supplies. Dont be that person who can't make it a day without going to the store. Dont be someone who panic buys. Staying home due to a hurricane, blizzard? Dont be someone who suddenly has to run out to gather supplies. Have them. I promise so much psychological comfort comes from knowing that there is nothing that is needed. I didnt stress at all during the great TP shortage. I am not a "just in time" shopper/house management. Be that person who can comfortably hunker down in your house for a few days, weeks (or more). Prepping= preparation. If you are scared of the word prepper then think of it as preparation and insurance, AND good house management. Be PROACTIVE! You dont have to buy emergency grade products, but they are nice option for super long term storage or mindless decision making. So if you are here wondering if you should buy long term storage emergency beef stroganoff (or whatever) then ask yourself why you need it, and what does your budget look like. You could buy some eggnoodles (or fettuccini as it will store longer than egg noodles), some creamy soup, some beef in a can (or dried beef, texturized protein, or other shelf stable protein), some cans of vegetables, and put them in a ziplock bag or box as a meal. Work up from there. Or if the price is right, grab this. If I was starting out that is how I would do it. Or if budget was an issue. I started adding emergency grade items only recently as my pantry and longer term pantry is pretty robust. I wanted to have some stuff simply tucked away. If I ever get to them fine, if not.. fine. I just like knowing its there.These containers tend to be standard in size for easy storage, for durability, and for ease of seeing whats what. This is a called a #10 container ("number ten"). They float, they take a beating. Inside this style are packets rather than loose food.These days most (some) people look to cut calories. When stacking your cupboards, you want to be adding as many calories as you can. If it comes a time when we are doing more than just going to work and sitting on our bums, know that daily living when conveniences stop existing will actually demand higher calorie intake to keep strong and healthy. From dusk til dawn will be physical chores. Never mind the 1500 calorie a day diets. You may want to be looking at 4000 (maybe more for some folks). Emergency food products will list how many calories in the entire container for ease of budgeting and making decisions.Anway, buy calories, buy variety, try to like what you store (but when hungry everything is tasty), and work on building it up by buying on sale, and buying a little here and there as you go. All expiry dates/best by dates are just quality guarantees and have no basis in food safety. Take a look at some govt sites and elsewhere for more information regarding this. Only one I am ever really concerned with is high acid foods like tomatoes. All else? All good well beyond dates so long as there is no leaking.These are 25 years out. First date you see is when it was manufactured. Some folks get upset thinking that they got an expired can. Critical thinking would tell you that if that were true, then this can would be at least 25 years old. No. Look a little closer and you will see a number that is actually a date 25 years in the future (or 10 years for some products). The date on this is for 2047. Sounds nuts.I like Augason farms and buy from them on a regular basis. I usually go with the #10 cans, but once in awhile will select a small bucket. Yet to buy big buckets. Those are the 3 main sizes.

I initially bought this stuff to keep in a storage room to have on hand in the event of further food shortages, etc. I got bored one day and made several servings of this stroganoff. It is wonderful! I will always keep this on hand!
