Just as easy to use as claimed, great speed
This really was an exceptionally easy product to install.I didn't monkey with thier software, since I'm just not that concerned that a close neighbor is also going to have one of these. What are the odds?Plugged one unit into the wall and the existing router, went to the other end of the house, where wireless is poor, plugged in the other one, and connected the cat6 wire. Presto, internet connection, just as good as being connected to the base router.I am only getting 80mbps or so of data transmission, but as stated in the product description, much of the available speed is dependent on how the wiring in your house is setup. I have not tried other nearby outlets to see if I can up that any, but Skype is working and that is what I was trying to achieve on my new Skype enabled Panasonic TV.I think this is a pretty cool device, that delivers on it's promise, and is super easy to setup. I also like that it is capable of much higher speeds should I end up moving it to a location that has less interfence and that it conforms to the powerline standard.

Great alternative to pulling cable
I have a lot of powerline communications going on in my homes (Insteon, X10, and now this). Nothing seems to interfere. Where these work, they work great. These work by sending multiple RF frequencies over your internal AC power lines. The ham bands are filtered out by law and I have not heard any bit of RF noise in HF or VHF amateur radio operation. No TVI or any other kind of interference created either. There's not any discussion I've seen about these operating across the phases in a home and I'm sure that affects their ranges. It's really hard to predict where these will work. You'll be sure to find pairs of outlets in your home between which these will not work. But you'll be sure to find several that will. After trying several of the slower speed versions of these, I would say that the odds are better that you will get a good connection with the 500Mbps units. The 500Mbps units have more frequencies that are used so interfering appliances and line filters have less of a chance of preventing connections. In ideal conditions, the 500 Mbps units will give you faster connections, but seldom will you ever actually see 500Mbps. With the yellow LED on, I get speeds that are as good as my 802.11(G) router via WiFi. Faster if I get a green connection. Think of the faster units as being more likely to get a good connection rather than getting any faster actual speed improvement and I think you'll be pleased. Don't buy one to improve on your wireless speeds because you may be disappointed unless your WiFi coverage is marginal. I use these where I can't get WiFi connections in my house. In fact, I even set up a WiFi repeater linked by a pair of these units and now I have no coverage "holes" (and speed is excellent). BTW, look at the units with the auxiliary AC outlet so you're not wasting a wall plug.

Poor implementation and terrible software
I purchased two different powerline adapter sets when the wireless n network in my house began to really show how terrible the 5ghz technology really is.Grabbed the Netgear Home Theater Connection Kit and this. The netgear product setup was a breeze. In 10 minutes I was up and running with new security credentials and speeds steady of 110-120 Mbs. Great for streaming to the xbox.On the opposite hand, I grabbed Trendnet kit on the whim that 500 Mbs sounded great, with a possibility of somewhere around 250 Mbs for internal network traffic. Well that is where my excitement ended.1. The software utility setup is terrible.2. Don't use the quick install guide, just use the manual if you intend to setup a custom network name with intuitive naming of the device.3. The device default passords did not work. Funny thing is that it says your device passwords are a combination of numbers and letters. Guess what, they are all letters on both devices and show as such in the manual. Short story, I could not get the device to unlock using the default password provided by each device (I did make sure I wrote them down with the correct MAC). Resetting devices also failed.4. I could see my second device and the speed was hovering around 100 Mbs, hardly close to 500 Mbs.I've been developing hardware devices for the last 12 years and I can say that this device feels like a good Engineering sample, but hardly a mass production unit. I would stick with some of the other options as I don't believe this 500 Mbs offering lives up to its potential.

Fastest yet, but has issues with cablecard use
Like most, I've been trying powerline adapters to avoid running ethernet in the house. I'm running Apple TV as well as a cablecard to a Ceton setup w/ 3 extenders. I tried the Trendnet setup (these adapters plus a 4 way 500Mbps adapter and the 200Mbps Wireless adapter) and got phenomenal speeds, in fact 4x better than my previous Linksys 200Mbps and TPlink 500Mbps trys. The setup was plug in and go, so super easy. Altogether I was very happy. However, after about 30 minutes I started getting pixelation on my Ceton extender and eventually freezing. The Apple download speeds held up though at about 4x from what I'm getting on my Linksys. I tested various iterations of each device plugged in over about 4 hours and got consistent results, great speed but pixelation on the Ceton intermittently. I'm sending them back because it's not going to work for my needs and giving it 2 stars because I do not have any of these issues with the Linksys and really shouldn't with Trendnet. However, if you are running anything but a cablecard you'll probably love the system and it should work well for you.
