It's time to get it on! That's the plan for Jasmine and Michael. Jasmine has been celibate for over a year, having been hurt by her past relationship. Michael gets plenty of action, but only from his obsession with porn. When Jasmine is finally ready to "do the deed", Michael finds himself unable to 'perform'. His addiction to pornography has made him useless without it. Now the two have to solve the problem with costumes, toys, food, and possibly meaningful conversation.

I love it!
This movie is awesome. Very pleasant surprise. I don't like perverted movies so I didn't think I would like it. But it's very sweet, being a Haitian woman I was super excited to see a gorgeous Haitian playing one of the leads. I also liked the Jamaican BFF, he was hilarious and gorgeous. This movie also taught a lesson and the dance scene was hot. I lost track of how many times I've seen this film. Writing this review makes me want to watch it all over again!

from a BNL fan
As a fan of Barenaked Ladies and expecially Ed Robertson I decided to check out this film. Since no one else has commented, I'd just like to say that Ed Robertson's performance was fun, and for any BNL fans out there, well worth checking out. The rest of the film is not bad, if a little heavy handed at times. It still has a message worth saying, and pokes lighthearted fun at people's hang ups.

Listen Up!!!
I can honestly admit that at some point in my life I suffered from the same problem as Micheal, which made me buy the movie in the first place I was suprised at how well the movie was written, and how well it address the subject of how detrimental porn can be to a healthy relationship.Kudos to the stars and Kudos to the director for making a film like this. I suggest every man at some point in his life take a good hard look at this movie.

Wow
The FIRST movie that's even come close to the way Love Jones made me feel when I first saw it. Such a perfect movie for discussion. We make relationships so much more complicated than they should be; but we can't help it.

I Love it When a Plan Comes Together!!!
What a couragous effort for Mr. Hill Harper. Many men would never think to speak about such a problem but here you have one of Black Hollywood's favorite actor/producers taking on a subject matter and does such a fantastic job at helping the director tell the story, its unbelieveable!!! Great co-star Marlyn Afflack helps make the two a perfect pair!!!

WAAAY BETTER THAN YOU THINK.
I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny and dealt with real issues. The jamaican friend is fine, and his accent it hot. He played on Seventeen Again with the Mowry twins. Watch it, you'll like it.

Poignant and hilarious dark romantic comedy
I am so glad I discovered this gem of Canadian cinema. The performances, especially by the two leads, Hill Harper and Marlyne Afflack in the roles of Michael and Jasmine, were gripping and heartfelt. Harper and Afflack were so natural and appealing in portraying the many emotional upheavals of their characters' relationship, that I found myself rooting for this couple to survive against all the odds (Michael is addicted to porn and a regular customer of the video store Pornucopia). The film explores some thought-provoking and somewhat dark themes, such as obsession, sexual dysfunction, escapism and the frustrations of aspiring artists. But comedic touches abound: Mark Taylor (Romeo in the sitcom Student Bodies) puts on a very respectable "Jafakin" accent as Michael's mama's boy/playa friend; there's outrageously campy fake porn scenes from Michael's imagination and from the tapes he loves and much, much more. As a Jamaican Canadian, I loved the elements of black Canadian culture that shine through in the film: the dance hall songs in the soundtrack, eating chicken bones, Caribbean slang, Haitian Creole, lack of punctuality...The black characters also experience the subtle, but damaging form of racism prevalent in Canada when they are dismissed and typecast. However, the viewer is constantly reminded that black people are and will always be an integral part of Canadian life: the characters speak to each other in English and French, Barenaked Ladies and hip hop go hand in hand and hockey brings everyone together. Sudz Sutherland deserves some serious props for his screenwriting/direction: the film is well-paced, nice to look at, smart, sexy, stylistically innovative in blurring the lines between fantasy and reality and full of wry, self-mocking, distinctively Canadian humour. I was very satisfied with the quality of the DVD in general, which includes an insightful making-of featurette, but the quiet sound and lack of subtitles were disappointing. I recommend this film highly to all film lovers and especially people who like their romantic comedies with a strong twist (think of Mambo Italiano, another Canadian classic).
