Don't BBQ or Smoke Your Meat Without It!
Up until I bought this little jewel, I used a cheap thermometer to tell the done-ness of my meat. I can't tell you how many pieces of meat I ruined due to over-cooking, or how many I thought were done, but wound up being undercooked. This quality, precision tool(MADE IN USA) is easy to use, easy to read, and, thanks to its loud alarm, is easy to hear from a long ways off. It has a high quality probe with braided stainless steel lead of ample length that will withstand temperatures far in excess of that which most of us will ever require. All of this comes in a very nice carrying case.I smoked a turkey breast last weekend using my new Chef Alarm, first time I ever used such a device. The breast was juicy, delicious, and done to perfection. I'll never cook another piece of meat without it. I highly recommend it to all.Customer service was great, too. I had a minor issue with the temp probe, and spoke with 'Desiree'. She was friendly, polite, and helpful, and as I spoke to her I saw her photo in the company brochure that came with the ChefAlarm, so I had a face to go with the voice. She sent me a new probe, no questions asked, and allowed me to keep the old one. They even included Jelly Bellies with both packages- what a nice touch! I will hereafter sing the praises of ThermoWorks and their products from the mountain tops!

Excellent product; would be even better with an improved holding clip.
We cook a ton of cashew/peanut brittle that needs to be heated to around 300 degrees. Prior to purchasing this product we struggled with top-heavy digital and inaccurate analog thermometers. We purchased the ChefAlarm based on Amazon ratings, and are completely thrilled with the product. It is accurate, easy to read, flexible in terms of placement of the display, versatile, good insulated cable, simple to use, etc; it is by far the best solution we have found for our candy making. We would give it 5 stars, except that the clip provided to hold the probe on the side of the pot does not hold the probe solidly. The probe moves around as the thick candy mixture is stirred. We solved this by using a separate small steel C-clamp which securely fastens the clip against the side of the pot. Using this solution, this product is amazing... 6-star if we could.

Way more complicated than it needs to be
I will never be able to comment on the accuracy of this device because it is fiendishly over-engineered and I will never learn how to use it. It apparently has great capabilities that I will never need or that are more easily handled by my stove or by a kitchen timer app. It is huge and takes up too much drawer space. It is also tricky, almost impossible to put back in the included zipper case. I feel very foolish to have purchased it. Getting another Thermapen.

High Quality Electronic Thermometer with low and high temp alarms and built in timer
Have never had an electronic thermometer before and have really enjoyed this. Initially bought it for my wife to alarm when her water was boiling (you know those times when you forget and finally check and half the water is boiled away before you use it :) but now have used it to bake turkeys and other things and have found it to be accurate and greatly simplifies cooking. The high quality probe cable is metal sleeved and withstands keeping the probe in the food in your oven while cooking. Provides alarms for both low temp and high temp and also has a builtin timer for just timing things. Probe is pluggable so you can change out for other types they have available to order. Really love this thermometer!

Instant read thermometer that does the job quickly and efficiently ...
Instant read thermometer that does the job quickly and efficiently. I did notice that when I leave the thermometer in the meat while it is cooking, the end of it gets really really hot.....

Good thermometer, but probes are not durable, and the company and the customer service are very lousy
I bought the green chef alarm directly from Thermoworks (the price was better at the time) together with the optional needle probe. I bought it first and foremost because of the fast 3 seconds read time of the needle probe as I already had a 7 years old Maverick with remote probe/receiver for all other jobs. The chef alarm with the needle probe was expensive but it worked reasonably well, I must admit. Now, few months later, I gently pulled on the wire of the needle probe while washing it and it came out rendering the needle probe and the pricey chef alarm useless to me. I thought, no problem, I’ll just order another one. After all, they work well, even if pricey. I went to Thermoworks web site and to my surprise they don’t sell the needle probe anymore. Not even a trace of it on the website -- now, 1 month later it is there but “unavailable”. I looked all over the Internet to order online but to no avail. Then I thought, no problem, I will contact the company. Thermoworks is a solid company and they surely will support their product. I sent them e-mail and asked them to sell me a new needle probe. I didn’t even ask for replacement, although the needle probe is definitely too flimsy given the price. Now, more than 1 month later, no response whatsoever. But they are quite happy to send me multiple marketing e-mails a week to buy their thermapen overpriced thermometer. I guess they don’t care about their customers once they make the sale. I am very bitter because the needle probe is the only reason why I spent $70+ dollars on that thermometer.I think generally Thermoworks quality is pretty low. Even the metal braiding on high temperature probe wire is falling apart. There are small metal wires sticking and poking my fingers. This is after a few months of very very light use. Remember, I bought the chef alarm mostly for the needle probe and I use my very old Maverick for most other jobs. My 7 year old Maverick probe is holding up much much better. And I take good care of my grilling tools.Bottom line, bad quality, over priced items, shady business practices and bad customer services. What is not to “like” about Thermoworks? I guess they want to sell more of their overpriced thermapens and the chef alarm is just bait and switch. Do yourself a favor and don’t buy it. I don’t know about their other products but now I will not buy any them given my experience with the company, their non existent customer service and the poor quality of their products.
