Deliver Us from Evil

I think I've read this before
Our hero, A. Shaw, is on the trail of the evil sadistic megalomaniac Nicholas Creel - no, wait, it's Evan Waller this time. Waller/Creel is a hugely successful businessman in his 60's with a contempt for weak people and thinks that the strong should rule the world, but still sees a place for going to church. His one weakness is younger women, whom he'll enjoy for a while and then kill, or at least try to. He is assisted by his loyal but weak aide, Dick Pender - no, no, that's Alan Rice - who fails him once too often and is murdered as a result. Waller arranges the murder of Shaw's current love interest, Anna - whoops, that's Katie this time, and while she nearly dies, this time she survives. Her parents thank him in the end for avenging her death/saving her life. As Shaw pursues the bad guy, he finds an attractive woman, Katie James - sorry, I mean Reggie Campion - working at cross purposes, but they eventually team up and become more than casual friends, and it could lead to a more lasting relationship if not for Shaw's baggage from the previous relationship. So in the end Shaw waltzes off into the sunset leaving a heartbroken Katie/Reggie behind. This is the last we'll see of Shaw, operative for a mysterious off-the-books government agency, until he is reincarnated as Will Robie. Fortunately, I only read Baldacci when I want to give my brain a rest, and he never lets me down.

A. Shaw At His Best
Deliver Us From Evil was another excellent A. Shaw book. It is filled with action. The bad guy is a horrible former KGB officer who committed mass murder in Ukraine. He escaped to Canada and made millions human trafficking. Shaw goes after him because it is believed he will be selling nuclear materials to terrorists. Shaw then runs into a beautiful woman who also is after the bad guy. The story takes place at a famous French resort town and in England and Canada. This is a fun book to read. I wish Baldacci had more Shaw books.

My 26th and last David Baldacci book
I have read 25 books by David Baldacci. This book is #26 and the last book I plan to read by him. When I started I loved books like Total Control and Zero Day. I found the Camel Club series enjoyable. Lately the books have crazy plots. I won't say too much about this book as I don't want to give anything away to someone who is considering the book. I have read 190 pages of this book and I have decided to just quit. I can't stay engaged because the plot is so artificial with supposed sexual tension which is very weak. Sorry David. I am giving up on you.

First Shaw book read
I'm a long time David Baldacci reader. I've been hooked since reading "The Winner" . I should have expected to love this book, but I had forgotten how great Baldacci weaves a story. Anyway this book was full of twists and turns. Full of the hooks that make reading a Baldacci novel so fun. Now I'm for sure going to get the Shaw number 1 book because I love this character. He's the perfect real life super hero. Understated greatness. Reminds me a lot of the famous Jack Teacher character that I Love. Anyway this book obviously will the into a Shaw book 3 so I'll be for sure adding that to my list. If you love espionage books and good guys vs. Villains then you can't miss with this one.

... have read many of Baldacci's books which I generally like better than this one
I have read many of Baldacci's books which I generally like better than this one. I don't think the author liked this one very well either because he returned to the major theme of male versus female operatives first in competition and then in cooperation with each other in the Will Robie/Jessica Reel series which I think he did it considerably better. If you are considering this book and haven't read the Robie books buy them instead. SPOILER: I thought that the way both sides in this book toyed with the other in what was really a very dangerous and violent confrontation was a major flaw in the work. If you are hunting down and killing extremely dangerous war criminals, hunt them down and kill them in the most efficient way. If you are a ruthless villain, and your enemies fall into your hands you kill them at once. I would also point out that in cardiac arrest from gunshot wounds, survival is zero except it goes up to a few percent if the cardiac arrest happens in a fully staffed major trauma center.

Good, but where was the copyeditor?
I'm a big Baldacci fan and enjoyed the first novel in this series. So far, I'm enjoying the second as well. I'm not going to search through these reviews to find out if anyone else has mentioned what I'm going to mention, but--honestly, David or David's editors--do you have no idea of what "military time" is? Never mind that folks like my dad NEVER said the letter O for zero; I've just had to give up on that. But writing "oh ten hundred" is completely stupid. You might write "oh three hundred" or "oh nine hundred" for 0300 and 0900, respectively, but no zero precedes 1000, or ten hundred hours. Think about it.

There is a mystery related to this book that I was unable to solve. There are so many missing comas and I have searched for them everywhere. I even checked at the end of the book to see if they had possibly fallen there. I do not know whether the problem is in the process of setting up the Kindle version of the book, but if the editor or author does not have time to proof read what they are selling, I am not going to give the book a review that it qualifies for.

Taut thriller
From the first page to the last, Baldacci keeps you glued to the book. Based on numerous real life events of Nazi hunters, this book lays bare the evil that has stalked parts of this world - and the few who are not willing to forget but hunt down the evil and rid the world of it, once for all.The character of Kuchin may seem far fetched but we know that there are/ were a number of Kuchin’s around

Readers Misplaced Praise
I have read a large of the Reviews for this book, and I am amazed at how many Readers praise Baldacci but apparently appear not to realise it was COWRITTEN, and Baldacci is not the FIRST named. One Reviewer even refers to the first book in the Series being co-written and not as good, whereas the reality is the other way round. Marks out of ten for Observation sadly is NIL!!!

Atypical Baldacci gripping thriller
A new series for me with so many character traits developing the story. I have enjoyed the series and it is great reading about the characters, I have heard people complain about the stories being the same, and this is partially true; the personas of the characters are similar in the books, but the roles are not - there is a mixture across these books that makes each one lots of fun.Bottom line: great book, try the series and enjoy

A bit long
I know, how can a Baldacci book be too long? It's nearly 600 pages and does get a bit involved. I much preferred the Puller and Decker characters and have to confess to wondering whether I really wanted to finish this book. Normally I can't put a Baldacci book down but I'm struggling to get the enthusiasm to pick this one up and continue the saga.

Who's Katie James?
I'm a massive fan of David Baldacci's work but I didn't think this was up to his normally high standards!I've not read the previous Shaw & K James book, so I was left wondering when/ if she was ever going to make a worthwhile contribution to this tale. She did, albeit halfway through the book.I doubt I'll be tempted to seek out the first book in the series. Sorry David, the pairing just didn't work for me.

Not as good as usual
Disappointed with this book. I didn't think it was up to the usual standard and I became bored before I'd got half way through. I thought the complications were too obvious and the plot transparent I scanned and skipped my way through it to the end and the final few chapters did not change my view. Glad this was not the first book I'd read by this author otherwise I might not have read any more; however, this is the first Shaw & Katie James book that I've read so perhaps this series is just not as good as the others.
