1001‎ Ways to Energize Employees Paperback – 1 May 1997

First couple of pages has me excited. I'm thinking this will help me manage my team better.

Employee motivation is the topic of countless books, seminars, lectures, and the like. It’s easy to find current, up- to- date books on the subject, but it’s also interesting to grab a book from the past and consider its advice in relation to the present-day business world. That is what I decided to do with this book, 1001 Ways to Energize Employees.Organized into three sections, this book serves up advice on ways to make employees feel wanted and important to the health of the business organization. The book doesn’t present general advice. Rather, it provides actual instances of energizing employees taken from actual companies. With each example, the book states the company, where it’s headquarters is located, and what the company did to make a difference in the lives of its employees and, in turn, how this improved the company.This book was published more than two decades ago and I’m happy to report that many of the creative measures it encourages have been adopted by companies from coast to coast. There are some bits of advice that are no longer relevant due to changes in technology. But much of what this book recommends still holds true today. You could grab most any bit of advice, any example from the three sections and apply it to your current place of employment.There is no question that employee involvement matters to the success of any business and innovative, transparent, open communication is the way to go. Most of the examples provided in this book are creative, others are more straightforward. But there is a common theme throughout, one that emphasizes the importance of being open, fair, and honest with employees; rewarding them for a job well done and making them feel like they are a critical part of the company’s success.I have read several books on employee empowerment and while the more modern books are often the best for addressing current needs, there is something to be said for a book from the past like 1001 Ways to Energize Employees. There is much wisdom to be found in this book’s pages and many relevant examples from real companies. Give it a quick read and discover ways that you, too, can encourage your employees to be the best they can be.
