What causes digital calipers to jump?

If a digital caliper jumps, it's because digital calipers are particularly sensitive to dirty, wet environments like oil and water.

How to solve this problem?

Try wiping the caliper itself with a clean, soft cloth, or leaving the caliper in the sun for an hour or so, or usually a hair dryer will solve the problem.

The caliper has manufacturing defects. It is not made of steel but an aluminium alloy. The caliper was bent and the measurment was not accurate.
