Mostly well-made, not a good deal
This knife is constructed exactly like a Spyderco or Cold Steel from the 80s/90s, probably from one of the same factories. The single-piece molded Zytel-type plastic handle (not plastic slabs sandwiched with screwed-together steel liners) has the blade and lock bar riveted in permanently (with a small washer supporting the blade pivot pin on each side). The steel has the exact same nearly-mirrored satin finish. The pocket clip is plastic and molded as part of the handle. Katz's own website lists this as a Kraton handle, which is normally a rubbery substance. I don't know if that is an error or if the Kraton name is being used for other substances now, but this handle is definitely a hard fiberglass-reinforced substance like Zytel (I can identify fiberglass presence by carving at the edge with a razor). That's all good and well. I actually wanted it for that very reason, as I slightly dislike the heavier and more complex assembly of newer Spyderco and Cold Steel knives. What held me back for a while was the mystery XT70 steel and the high price. I finally got my hands on a used one for a good discount, and I'm glad I didn't pay full price.Katz compares their XT70 and XT80 steel to AUS6 and AUS8 respectively on their website by listing them next to each other. This model is XT70, and it definitely behaves like AUS6 at a hardness of 56. This is kind of lame. The edge develops a bur easily when used only moderately, which is not very good for a knife in this price range. Katz obviously just doesn't care.I have two complaints about the overall design. First, the lock notch is shallower than others. It works OK, but requires about half as much lock bar travel as you might expect (though the internal corners are nice and squared off, not rounded). Second, the thumb opener on the blade is further from the pivot than most other knives. Only about 1/4 inch, but enough that it feels awkward to open compared to hundreds of other knives I have. These are minor details, overall. The bottom line for this knife is that for the price, it ought to have steel a step up from AUS6 and possibly a removable clip. Or else a lower price.
