Deadhouse: Life in a Coroner's Office Paperback – July 17, 2007

The good: the author does a great job of describing the thoughts, feelings, and circumstances of the interns and workers in the coroner's office; the descriptions of the victims and their families are also well done, not cliched; I learned a lot about bodies and what happens to them during various kinds of deaths and afterward; as another reviewer said, the writing is even and fast-paced. I disagree with the reviewers who said that the book was dry and not very informative, but that may be because I am especially interested in medicine without having the education of a medical professional (I notice that a physician who reviewed it also found it interesting, however). This book would probably be interesting to others who like medicine, the human body, and who are curious about how things affect other people psychologically.The bad: I don't have anything bad to say about this book. I couldn't put it down.I gave it 4 stars only because I save 5 stars for the few books that move me so much that they change my life. This one was an engrossing few hours.

If you're interested in the daily operations and the people involved with the Coroner's office, this is a smooth read. Nothing too exciting, just a day to day account of the people who work there. If you are interested in this field, you'll like it.

This Author is truly amazing. Also HIGHLY RECOMMEND John Temples book "American Pain". The Author has a way of making you feel as if you are actually present while reading the book. I couldn't put it down, it was THAT GOOD!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Interesting read about Coroners and what they deal with on a daily basis.How the interns react and learn to accept what once was a living being is now an empty shell.

I love reading and enjoy almost any book; however I had to stop reading it because the plot was just so slow going. Not a bad book per say but also not my cup of tea.

Loved the rapport between the different offices and how it did not back down in describing the sometime gruesome details of a dead body.

Couldn't put it down! Easy read with true information to the field. Would recommend to anyone with any involvement or interest in the field.

A very informative read. I could not put it down ! If you ever considered working in a Coroner's Office I recommend reading this book.
