I think it should. What you want is for the smallest part of the clip to go around the pole and the bigger part of the clamp is for the plant to grow through. Even if the clamp doesn't go all the way around the pole they should still hold tight.

Q: Are these made well enough to be reuse more than one growing season, or are they one and done?

Yes, they are.....I removed all clips from plants last fall and stored them with my garden supplies and are reusing them in our garden now
