What's the difference between orchid Sphagnum moss and mountain moss?

mountain moss might be the stuff that grows on trees or in the shade in n.w. america. the best spagnum comes from New Zealand, and holds water well and doesn't rot as much. for orchids this 'super moss' is poor. it has leaves, twigs, and something like fern in the package. most of the moss is brown, not the good white sphagnum thats best for orchids. i wish i hadn't bought this for my orchids.

Is this pure? Or does it have additives i want to use it for my carnivorous plants

It is pure Sphagnum. In the package I received I didn't see impurities (sticks, weeds, etc.). There is nothing added. It is ideal for carnivorous plants.

Do you use this in place of bark or coconut fiber with orchids?

yes, some orchids prefer it. Type in an orchid species full name at google subject space, followed by the words" in situ ", click on images, and there is often a picture of the plant growing in the wild.

I have purchased this several times. my last order came loaded with fungus gnats! what do i do now? i repotted 40 orchids!

Separate one plant from the others as a tester: Try using Neem oil in a spray (mixed with water and few drops of dish soap) every 7-10 days, after soaking the media with hydrogen peroxide (which is safe bc it turns to H20). Then let the plant dry out for a few days before you water it again. Fungus doesn't thrive inndry media
